Re: Nice Planet XII: It's Cruel to be Kind!

And yet reports of studies (FWIW) are out there stating that your conservative vs. liberal biases may actually lie in your genes.

Well I am a liberal who wont vote for Hillary and I know tons of conservatives not voting for Drumpf so screw what some random study says ;)

My dad went from hardcore conservative to making Paul Wellstone look like Rush during my lifetime, so I agree with Handy. His parents were rather conservative.

Re: Nice Planet XII: It's Cruel to be Kind!

I would like to agree with Kepler and make all discrimination legal, letting the free market work itself out....but, I think there are too many bigots for this to be effective.

That's basically why I say "I'd prefer it" but I'm not really in favor of it. Bigotry is not evenly distributed, so in those areas where the bigots preponderate (is that a word?) minorities are sca-rooed.

Although if I was black I wouldn't want to live in Southie anyway.

That makes sense, though. He was indoctrinated by conservatives but his smart genes expressed themselves and he gradually got over it. :)

Sunshine is the best disinfectant. That's why I'd favor it.

And for the "preponderate" areas you mention, isn't that a free-market opportunity for someone of the other POV to pick up the business left behind?

Re: Nice Planet XII: It's Cruel to be Kind!

And I'm a conservative that won't vote for Trump! I have pretty much decided I'm going Libertarian this election.

Yeah, but that's not a paradox because Trump is not a conservative.

I am really interested in how many yous there are going to be. Particularly if the race widens and it becomes obvious that Trump is a lost cause, this could be a great year for the Libertarians, and they seem to be well placed to take advantage of it.

I'd love to see a few white knight billionaires* start airing Libertarian party ads -- not just for Johnson but for the party, what it stands for, how it is aligned well with a large number of voters, particularly the young. I have always thought the natural breakdown of the American electorate is left economic (D), right economic left social (L), and right economic right social (R).

* The Kochs are a natural. They don't really belong in the Republican camp -- they started Cato, they're heavily into the arts, and one of them was actually the Libertarian Veep nominee once! They're the classic example of teenage boys whose intellect froze when they read The Fountainhead and ever after they've been trying to immanentize the Free Market Eschaton. Imagine what a billion dollar advertising campaign could do for the Libertarian party at a time when the other two parties' favorability is ringing in around septicemia?

I hear what you're saying. I'm torn. I have often wondered whether black businesses in the 50s and 60s actually opposed desegregation because it threatened their captive market.

I definitely fall into the right economic, mid-left social. I just don't think the government should be telling people who they can marry, or how to live their lives in other ways. Its not our business, and there are much more important things to worry about.

I think there are more of you than most people realize. There are at least as many of you as there are of the right economic / Thumpers who ran the GOP from 1994 through 2014.

Re: Nice Planet XII: It's Cruel to be Kind!

Well, now you've found two of us so far.

Three. Not that it matters since I live in MN which will go Hillary regardless of whom I vote for. At least I don't have to try to decide which of these two is the lesser evil as they both look awfully evil to me.

Re: Nice Planet XII: It's Cruel to be Kind!

If you're in a purple state, please do. For me. I'll vote for your candidate for you to call it even.

I am in Minnesota...if Drumpf ran unopposed he would barely get 40% of the vote ;)

Re: Nice Planet XII: It's Cruel to be Kind!

Probably a bad idea to use the typically white, male, well-educated demographic of a college hockey message board on which to base Gary Johnson's chances at being relevant in this election. ;)
