Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

Re: Nice Planet, Part 2: A-holes on parade

Got to vent a little here so bear with me.

As some know, I do news on the weekend for a station in the Watertown, NY era. I'm good friends with the weekend DJ I work with. One of our good friends has a son that was diagnosed with Lymphoma a month ago. Anyways, they've had a couple of fundraisers for him and we've plugged them on the radio a few times. (Not every break, but enough to overdo it.) I finished up my news and we took a call from a listener off-air after we went to the next song. (Sometimes if it's good, we'll use it on the air.) The caller said, "Haven't you raised enough *bleeping* money for that, kid." I did all I could to help my co-worker not go off on the guy. I kept cool, but I had to smash something when I got outside. What kind of an a-wad does this? I hate people sometimes.

He sounds like an exclusive cume a*shole to me. :)

I don't suppose you wrote down that jerks number. I would love to find something like that Sarah Mclachlan ASPCA ad on Youtube and just have people randomly calling him to play that on his phone. What a Jerk!!!

Snark. I liked the line, as it shows that idiocy knows no bounds.

I guess it's just me. I don't find any humor in the sexual assault of a helpless, mentally challenged teenager. And I am repulsed by the thought that there are people who's first instinct is to crack wise. Maybe if their sister, girl friend, daughter, mother was treated this way, they might not find the episode so amusing. And this from people who collectively claim to have great "empathy" for the downtrodden. They do, right up to the point they can get a giggle out it, apparantly.

I don't think the impact of the situation was lost on him (nor me). We just added thoughts on idiots who have let their thoughts be known about situations like this one.

IMO, it's time for you to apply the first rule of holes. On what basis to you give him the benefit of the doubt? Neither one of you expressed any sympathy for the victim or outrage at the event. Only snarky bullsh*t. If the "impact of the situation" wasn't lost on you, you have an odd way of showing it.

I would think that "disgust at a story like this" is automatic if one is human. It shouldn't need to be specifically stated.

Really? Do tell. I'll have to remember that bit of wisdom in the future. It's bullsh*t and you know it. I can point to two posters for whom "disgust" wasn't "automatic." And if it was, they kept it well hidden. The trouble is, there are probably lots of shallow people for whom the suffering of others is merely the backdrop for scoring political points. Chris Matthews, for instance, thought Hurricane Sandy was a good deal because it helped you know who. He apologized, but it was a rare moment of candor, IMO.

Well, then, stories like this, you can safely assume that I want severe punishment (maybe even a little torture) for criminals like this. We good?
