Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

Re: Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

So if I quote Teddy "KGB" from Rounders and say "Don't worry son, it will all be over soon..." I am now making a rape joke? Who knew...

The over use of outrage just numbs the masses to the true outrages in this world. Its like people who call everyone they disagree with a nazi, makes it kind of tough to see the real nazis.
There's nothing wrong with addressing the smaller problems as well the bigger ones especially as it relates to social issues. But yeah in this case I agree with you, I don't see how it can be construed that way and Toni Mac didn't do a great job of explaining it all that well imo. At first I thought that maybe the quote was some pop culture reference that everyone knew and it flew over my head but that doesn't seem to be the case.

YOU JUST DON'T THINK IT'S A BIG DEAL BECAUSE YOU ARE MAN WHO DOESN'T UNDERSTAND RAPE CULTURE!! WHARRGARBLE!

Hee hee.

19 paragraphs until they mention the key fact:

Under the FDNY’s new hiring policy, probies must earn at least 75 percent on the combined requirements of academics, hands-on skills and physical fitness.

Which undercuts most of the argument, since it is was a pre-existing policy decision. Then, farther on:

He also indicated he wanted to act before a possible sex discrimination lawsuit after the city paid $98 million to settle a lawsuit that accused the FDNY of discriminating against minorities.
“We must no longer wait for a judge’s ruling to tell us what fairness means,” Nigro said.

Which means they're covering their butts in case of a lawsuit. Now, since it's the Post, we have no idea what the prior lawsuit was based on (to be fair, that's probably not a deliberate omission to strengthen their story, but just typical Post ineptitude). We'd have to know whether the potential for a gender lawsuit is analogous to the minority case to evaluate further.

tl; dr: May not be nearly as sensational as the paper is claiming; their own lack of reporting skill denies us the data we'd need to make a judgment.

Re: Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

NAILED IS A EUPHEMISM FOR INTERCOURSE! RAPE CULTURIST!

:D

How people can't see how ridiculous this is, is beyond me.

The latest one is a line on some Bud Light bottles, saying, "Remove 'No' from your vocabulary tonight." The rape culture poutrage folks got that line removed almost immediately. Refraining from the urge to rip on anything Budweiser does or stands for, even this is ridiculous. Had they said, "Remove 'No' from her vocabulary..." then maybe these idiots would have a point. Now we can't even say the word 'No' without it being tied somehow, someway to rape culture? I hate people. I really do.

Re: Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

"ZOMG Rape!1!!" aside, you have to admit that's a pretty stupid phrase to be including in any alcohol ad campaign, as it makes the "Drink Responsibly" bit look even more lip service-y than it already is.

Yeah, there's a lot of OMG RAPE overzealousness out there, but the bud light one seemed like a legitimate one to take to task.

I agree. This one seemed like a pretty easy connection. Along the lines of "prevent rape, say yes"

Yep. Not just the rape thing, but the issue that was brought up: You okay to drive? "No is not in my vocab tonight, so sure!" Stupid.

If there's any positive out of this, maybe the rape-culturists will stop drinking Bud Light. The more people saved from drinking that **** beer, the better off the world is.

Amen to this. What's worse is that I saw them offering samples of it in Sam's Club over this past weekend.
