Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

Speaking of being over-reactive and presumptuous...

That said, suspending the student for an entire year seems like overkill, unless there was more than one incident. I suspect we're not getting the whole story here.

However, I don't have the power to punish anyone for transgressions. Although some would say reading my posts is punishment enough and should be prohibited by the Geneva Conventions. Well, the "story" is in the video. If he's a serial hugger and has been cautioned and punished previously, then he deserves what he gets. But I suspect this "crime" is based on an entirely subjective standard. And is first cousin to little kids being suspended for having pistol shaped pop tarts and the rest of the brainlessness that's common place in our schools these days.

His mom says he has been suspended in the past. I'm more inclined to believe it's a three strikes you're out type thing. Not necessarily three punishments for hugs but three suspension-worthy punishments.

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

I'll disagree. She neither met nor returned the hug, but in fact pushed him away. If she had warned him before about hugging her, this is a very clear case of sexual harassment. If.

Maybe the lad was a little "too happy" to see her perhaps. That could have made it sexual harassment having that brushing up against her during the hug.

That could certainly be the case. Still, I wonder if a kid caught smoking pot (or Chesterfields, for that matter) in the boys room would be tossed out of school for a year after the 3rd offense. That just strikes me as severe. But if he was warned, well then, he's just stupid.

I'm troubled by the notion that a hug is "sexual." From which it follows that people who hug are "sexual harassers." If true, what does that make Santa Claus?

Well, there are huggers, and there are non-huggers. It's a matter of general comfort. I know both kinds. It's more a matter of personal space rather then "sexual."

Re: Nice Planet 6: Get Me Off This Planet.

I believe I posted this story when it happened a couple years ago, but I'll refresh everyone's memory.

My niece was assaulted by this guy who was dating the baby's mother and the attack left the little one blind and suffering. The baby finally died this week. I just feel so angry and lost over this whole thing. That POS hopefully will get murder charges attached to him.

Also "as a general rule"....don't touch people without their permission. Especially when they specifically ask you not to.
This.

So the teacher is a frigid, fearful, over reactive b*tch. This kid has to pay for it by getting kicked out his senior year? There's no other punishment available? You actually approve of a totally subjective standard for these things? She didn't like it, therefore it's "sexual harassment?" Whether you intended it or not, that's the core argument of political correctness. By striving to avoid giving offense, we have empowered the most easily offended.
Yes, when:

Try reading this little word I used twice in my original post:

And sexual harassment has nothing to do with the gender of the victim. Or of the perp. What a former boss did to me - and other guys on the sales team - was a clear case of sexual harassment that he ended up getting fired for.

I'll repeat/restate what I said before: If (there's that little word again) she told the little darling not to be hugging on her before, his grabbing her in an unwanted fashion like that is sexual harassment. On the other hand, if (don't miss that little word again!) she never warned him, I'd have a tough time calling it sexual harassment. He doesn't get leeway because he is a "serial hugger." The right to have her body hugged - or not - belongs solely with the teacher. Want to debate the length of suspension? Go ahead, but we know even fewer of the facts relevant to that debate. Not that that will stop people.

My school district had a strict policy on drug and alcohol offenses, first time was 10 days (2 weeks), second offense was expulsion. And there was never a reset period, so if you went 5 years between offenses you still got expelled.

Is that on campus offenses?

My schools weren't even that strict...and I went to private catholic schools...

My kids' Catholic school has tossed kids for twitter / facebook pictures with alcohol or for off campus behavior that gave the school a bad name (vandalism for one).

On campus offenses. I know this very well as I was suspended for being drunk at dance one year (along with about 20+ other kids) and I know two people who got expelled for a year after a second offense.

I looked it up, seems they changed it slightly from my day to not having automatic expulsion for the second offense if it occurs after 3 years. In my day *shakes cane* it didn't matter if you had in offense in Middle School and then got one your senior year of High School, automatic expulsion.

When you're right, you're right. Only in this case you're not. Burying us in all of the politically correct "sexual harassment" clichés doesn't change the fact that this kid was victimized by an over reactive teacher. Ex post facto arguments designed to portray him as Jack the Ripper for having impulsively hugged a teacher are nonsense.

Even when you say the same thing I did, I'm an idiot and you're brilliant. I can see why the lefties can't stand you. You can really be a monumental idiot at times.

Touchy, aren't we? The ponderous, quasi-legal language and thinking you've provided here is one of the reasons this country is in the sh*tter (there are many others). You continue to advocate a completely subjective standard: "if" the teacher doesn't like it, it's "sexual harassment."

Your inference that "serial hugger" means the kid is a multiple offender with teachers in general, and this b*tch in particular, is not warranted by the information provided. You're free to jump to any conclusions you wish. As am I. You are free to conclude that hugs constitute "sexual harassment," just as I'm free to conclude they don't. BTW, the libtards "can't stand" me because I generally expose them as shallow, ignorant, bigoted hypocrites. You're half right: I'm brilliant.
