Pope John Paul II according to the article. Maybe Churchill, I don't know. Andy of Mayberry is on solid legal ground, disregarding a presidential "request." But his goal, IMO, is to get his hitherto unknown fotch in the news. In this, he has succeeded completely. If you had a flag pole in your front yard I believe you'd similarly be on your own. Lower or not, it would be your call. IMO, you should lower it.

Mandela basically pulled all of South Africa together by the collar when things could have gone all sideways and then downhill in a hurry with a big effort to "Git Whitey!" that had plagued so many other freed African countries before it, and did it all pretty much with a rugby tournament. The world is now poorer for losing this giant of a man.

Hey church and state, sure, but to have to have a LAW protecting someone from saying "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hannukah,"....that's ridiculous.

Yeah, but he'll be challenging it in front of a Texas State District court judge, elected on a partisan ballot. And most Texas ISD's will also be less inclined (with a law on their side) to roll over for the customary legal bullying by the ACLU and other left wing fascists. Does having a Christmas tree, sing a long, party, decorations, etc constitute "establishment" of religion in the context the Constitution forbids? Not from where I'm sitting. Anyone whose delicate sensitivities are offended by these and other similar activities can be excused. For far too long, microscopic groups and individuals have asserted their rights are infringed upon by these kinds of activities. It's time (well past time) for the vast majority of us to once again assert our rights to enjoy the harmless, largely secular activities and symbols of Christmas once again without fear of being hauled into court. The Lone Star state may have taken a much needed step back to reality and common sense in these matters. God love 'em for trying.

The first amendment only applies for xtians... and maybe the jews, since conservatives have a strange hard on for those little hat thingies.

Not sure how these morons expect this to be upheld when it gets challenged. It's probably just some publicity stunt so they can claim it's all part of the larger war on christmas!

Why not pay a "holiday" visit to Texas and shout that sh*t at the top of your lungs on some Houston street corner (make sure your affairs are in order first)?
