Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

If they really are stomping their feet and getting pouty that their proposed raise was "only" 4.5% per year, at a time when unemployment in Chicago is about 10%, that seems pretty silly from the outset. Do they even have to undergo a performance review to get a raise, or would it be automatic for every member as part of the union contract?
I've never heard of a raise for a union member being related to a review. That might happen in private company unions, but I doubt it would for a public union.

If the federal government is any judge, unless you've been deemed to be "unsatisfactory" (and be prepared for all the paperwork and legal challenges to that), you get the raise.

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

I'm too numb to be outraged by much of anything anymore.

I just enjoy the selective outrage that many exhibit. 11 people died and then Haliburton lied.

That's more people than the Benghazi thingy, yet... silence from the usual suspects.

I saw what you did there, Stinky, but it's still wrong to use that phraseology to trivialize the murders of four Americans.

Jake Tapper with an intriguing story about Benghazi-gate.

You need to read up on the punishment Halliburton received. It's nothing.

I have yet to see anyone explain to me how much money they're willing to spend to protect people in dangerous places. It's already a black hole of cash that could be used here for a lot of good.

And you would modestly volunteer to direct the payments, no doubt.

Dipstick who threatened Obama sentenced to 15 months in the slammer. In my lifetime I've seen one president murdered, another gravely wounded, credible attacks on two other presidents (one of whom was attacked twice), one presidential candidate murdered and another put in a wheel chair for the rest of his life. There's no room for compromise here. Yet Squeaky Fromme and Sara Jane Moore have been released from prison. They should both have spent their last days behind bars, dribbling on their Depends.

I think Hinkley, now that is mental illness is "cured", will be set loose, too.

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

Took a few days off from the board, came back to this nonsense.

Don't want to jump to any conclusions here, but my guess is a guy whose nickname is "sniper" will be fairly impervious to any new federal gun control legislation.
You know how I know you're a troll? Because this is the kind of stuff you do when I agree with you.

"Greed" eh? You mean like when Hillary made 99K in profits on a 1K cattle futures investment (in just a few days)? You mean that kind of greed?
Person A: Here's a problem and it sucks. Person B: Oh yeah? Well this other thing also sucks, so I don't care about that first thing that you mentioned.

Some call it switching the subject. Some call it getting defensive. I call it annoying.

And you've now provided 4 instances of this alleged "problem" with no analysis showing an increase in these kinds of incidents. Some of your examples rely solely on the versions provided by the people shot, with no balance whatsoever. Last year 120 police officers died in the line of duty. 41 were shot. 5 stabbed. And 11 deliberately run down.* Somehow your constant mewling about this "problem" overlooks those facts.

I ask again: what is your solution? Tougher civilian review boards with subpoena power? Okay by me. Weaken the power of police unions that make it virtually impossible to fire a bad cop (incidentally it's unions doing the "coddling" you're so worked up about)? Again, okay by me. Higher educational standards for prospective officers? Let's do it. But given the permutations and combinations of the hundreds of thousands of police interactions every year, it seems inevitable cops will occasionally over react or react stupidly or even criminally. Making it tougher to become a cop. And easier to get rid of a bad cop seems like the only solution. But whining about a "problem," offering a tiny handful of examples and drawing conclusions based on that small sample, while offering no suggestions on how to fix it, strikes me as anti-cop bloviation.

The funny thing about all this bloviating (by the way, thank you for reminding me that that word exists) is that you went on this "oh well what's your solution?" tirade in response to a post that was at least half spent explaining that I don't think police officers in these situations face any sort of serious consequences. So way to get your knickers all bunched up for nothing.

Absolutely nothing I post will ever shake your impression that I am some combination of Al Sharpton and a college freshman art studies major turned communist/al Qaeda sympathizer. You will always react to me by running on tangents and throwing **** out there, regardless of what the hell I'm actually writing. I, on the other hand, cannot read any of your posts without picturing you as a cross between Alex Jones, Grandpa Simpson and this guy (NSFW due to language, NSFL due to content)... and figuring that that is offensive to all three of them. So here's what I propose: I put you on my ignore list, you put me on yours, and we can stop pretending like either of us cares what the other has to say on any subject, ever.

I don't have an ignore list. And if I did, you aren't important enough to be on it.

Sure I wouldn't be...

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

It's really hard to keep up with the ever expanding lexicon. In Seattle, "brown bag" is now "racist."

Decision apparently pending on "niggardly."

They don't like "citizen," preferring "resident" since some of the people they serve are not citizens. I would assume they serve non-residents as well.

And while city leaders publicize "brown bag" lunch meetings as a way to designate a bring-your-own lunch time event, the term has a sorted history.
If the word "brown" can't be used in this context, it can't be used at all. I think I will "sort" this PC BS to the circular file. Assuming that doesn't discriminate against other circular things.

I generally ignore anything that is "PC" because it is really all just plain bull****.

I am neither a resident nor a citizen of Seattle, but I assume if I visit I'll be afforded protection by the police and a ride in an ambulance if needed? What about roads? Are those for residents only, or can I use them too?
