Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

The Worst Parents in America!

This is what they're facing for charges:

• Providing alcohol to all four children (legally drunk 9-year-old!)
• Physically abusing the kids (one was thrown into a wall)
• Having firearms within reach (right there on the floor)
• Threatening to kill the youngest child
• Taking pics of one kid with an “adult toy” in his pants
• Keeping one from going to school … ever
• Locking one of the children in a room with a bucket
• Having child porn on the computer
• Making one kid take care of the family’s FIFTY SNAKES
• Living in a filthy home with lizards, pigs and other animals

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

This one hits close to home. 14-year old, riding his bike back home after visiting friends in his old neighborhood, gunned down. For no apparent reason. His mom had moved him and his siblings to my home town because of the schools and because "it's safer." He was to enroll at my high school in September. Wanted to play football. While we are rightly enraged if George Zimmerman is a lethal combination of Barney Fife and Bull Connor who "murdered" a black kid for the h*ll of it, shouldn't we be equally outraged that this boy is dead, merely for being in the wrong place at the wrong time?

I'm sorry, but from the "been there, done that" file, I don't blame the officers one bit for shooting a 130 pound Rottie that was lunging at them.

Not to make fun of the situation (OK maybe I am), Mr. Rosby apparently has not seen this "educational video"

Oh, Keanu, can you come here for a minute?

I thought you said you went to YORK HS instead or OP-RF HS...

No, I'm a DOOPer ("dear old Oak Park") However, I've posted several times about York's truly remarkable cross country coach Joe Newton. That may have misled you. 50+ years on the job and still winning state titles. He's up to 28 now (including this past season), with a dozen second place finishes. We crossed paths several times a year when I was in high school in cross country and track. Truly one of the most remarkable people I've ever met.

Ah, ok... Yea, that was why I was thinking York... Either way, both are longass drives for me when I have to go out there for Summer JV Baseball :p

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

I want to know what will happen if a fan whose real last name is Hernandez and is a Pats fan tries to order an NFL customized jersey, and is told "no." There is going to be a legal precedent set at some point in time with situations like this.

This has come up before. There was a fan whose actual last name was Gay and they wouldn't let him order.

I'd guess they'd probably reject any combination of Hernandez and 81. Which sucks if you're a Hernandez born in 1981.

And what about all the poor schmucks named Carruth?

It came up with my buddy once. He wanted a Scott Slutzker jersey (TE for the Saints, IIRC). The NFL would not make him a jersey of their own player, simply because of the name. However, in that case, it wasn't my buddy's name, so I couldn't see a case, really.

I tell you, someone is going to hire some sleazy lawyer and make a fuss of it at some point.

"sleazy lawyer" is redundant.

I have only met 3 lawyers in my life. One is on here (kinda sleazy; NYer, though, so whaddya expect ;) :D ), one that was on my softball team (good guy), and one I consulted after my person was hit by a car and the driver threatened me with supposedly getting a lawyer (another seemingly good guy; worked with my father when he was in collections for a private retail business and then the state of MN).

There was a movement on Twitter yesterday wishing America a happy 2013th birthday.

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

Once every few months, we get a reminder: Always make sure that your dog is entirely restrained before you have any interaction with a police officer. Because some of them might just be looking for an excuse to pull the trigger.

This goes double if you're being flippant anywhere near a crime scene.

And, let's be honest, it probably goes triple if you're poor and quadruple if you're black.

Three of the officers have been pulled off patrol duty after getting death threats.

"I understand that people have been affected by this video. Anyone would be," (Lt. Scott) Swain told the Breeze. "The police officers involved are affected by this incident and having to kill a dog.

"I don't understand how it translates into an eye for an eye: `We are going to kill you and your family because of this incident,"' he said of the threats to the officers.

Chief Robert Fager has called for calm and urged people to be patient as police investigate the shooting, and also avoid information being circulated through social media because "fallacies are being perpetuated."

Officers in the field have been told to be vigilant against any possible retaliation.

"You'd like to believe that maybe some of the people are just venting, but then you've got to be realistic. There are crazy people out there," Swain said.

Sometimes there's just no use in considering any other options before immediately gravitating to the most lethal one, amirite?

"You'd like to believe that maybe some of the people are just venting, but then you've got to be realistic. There are crazy people out there," Swain said.
Fair point. It's almost like those people making death threats need to learn that it's stupid to over-react in a situation where you can kill something.

From the "Related--been there, done that" file: Over the years I've been on the scene of several "officer involved" shootings (God, I hate cop talk) in which a white officer shot a black individual. Invariably, the folks in the neighborhood are at pains to tell any media who will listen: "That boy wasn't doing nothing." "He wasn't armed." "That cop just gunned him down." Or variations on the theme. It remains to be established they even saw the event, let alone that their version is accurate. In many cases it's likely they just wandered up when they heard the commotion and began preaching to the choir. Equally inevitable is that these people never wind up testifying before civilian review boards or grand juries. Or even volunteering their information to investigating officers. Could be some of them don't want to participate in the investigation because they've got their own legal problems or perhaps they're just stirring the pot. And there's always that pesky perjury business.
