Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

I'd be curious to hear from experienced criminal defense attorneys, especially from Florida.

I think that in the criminal defense bar a female jury is preferred. I think it's pretty well known that women are much more skeptical, and much harder on the victims than their male counterparts. For example in rape cases, many times female jurors are just as likely to question why the victim was with the defendant, why the victim let the defendant into her home, etc..., than feel sympathy for her fellow female.

Not sure why this is, but I suspect there is some truth to it. When I heard at the beginning of the trial that it was a jury of 6 women, I told my wife it would be a very hard prosecution to win on that basis alone.

Here is one opinion for a Florida lawyer: http://criminaldefenseblog.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-embarrassment-of-george-zimmerman.html

Well, that didn't take long.

You know what...for as much as I don't like the idea of profiteering off this, I'm absolutely fine with this. You got picked to sit through that three week ****show, you were sequestered, the media and half the country wants your head on a pike for nothing more than doing your duty as a citizen...you've been through hell. Get you some.

More power to her. I hope the book is a success and she makes a ton of money.

Shouldn't even bother with the expense of a trial. We already know what the verdict will be.
Since you apparently have seen all of the evidence and talked to witnesses, it would be nice if you shared what you saw with the rest of us.

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

We can always go with the Hernandez case. Another classic racial case of hispanic on black crime.

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

The first minute of reading that makes me want to smash my head against the desk, and that author was 100% correct in everything he wrote.

He's pretty much spot on. One thing to remember: coverage producers and news honchos weren't interested in professional, courteous discussions of the issues involved. Confrontational, emotional exchanges were what they wanted. And at all costs, don't say anything that might drive away eyeballs. Every routine motion was greeted like white smoke in Vatican square. Every lawyer involved was the reincarnation of Clarence Darrow. And whatever you do, no matter which side you're on, mention the elephant in the room: this case was a loser, period.

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

I deleted the story. The Daily News was trumpeting this as a new story but the byline is from last year. But they'll get plenty of page views.

These are relatively new takes on the case.

Rolling Stone reported on the case back in April and had some interesting facts about Stand Your Ground.

In the eight years since the passage of Stand Your Ground, self-defense killings have more than tripled in Florida, and prosecutors sometimes have little choice but to accept the shooter's story: The only other witness is in the morgue. And like most of the gun amendments incubated in Florida, this one quickly went viral. It's now the law of the land in more than 20 states. Has it reduced violent crime, the stated goal of the law? Certainly not, according to study after study; homicides are up in SYG states, though they're down almost everywhere else. More than 500 people are dead from such shootings. And the prime victims of these crimes, according to one 2012 Georgia State University study? White males, or precisely the sort of men whom SYG was built to protect. But that's what guns do: They backfire and kill.

Sounds pretty similar. I guess this one didn't get the love the Martin case did from Sharpton, etc.

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

Mr. Dunn will go down. Either on the merits of the case or for political reasons, the result will be the same. The authorities better get the charges correct this time.

The case is goofy. Just read up on it briefly. They're on their third judge already. The trial is scheduled for September, but will likely be postponed. Incidentally, there was no gun, not that it matters.

Dead men tell no tales. It's going to be pretty hard to convict him unless they find an impartial eye witness.

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

You do a pretty good job. I'll leave it in your capable hands.

Sorry, Charlie. I post about the horrific black on black carnage in Chicago. About which you, "the one," his stooge at the justice department and the Revs apparently don't care.

Why are libtards still yakking about "stand your ground?" That was not an issue in this case. Never was. Zimmerman passed on a "stand your ground" hearing. Never invoked or cited it. Yet, every day, presumably forever, we're going to hear ignorant partisans whining about a law that had zero to do with the outcome of a trial. An outcome they disapprove of.

Sure it was an issue. Just because that defense wasn't used doesn't mean it wasn't considered and certainly doesn't mean it wasn't relevant. Ha, I just posted today that the verdict was correct so get off your mad grandpa rant.

Looks like the same horrible prosecutors are involved in the Dunn case. He'll walk.
