Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

She gets 20 years for shooting an abusive husband, Plaxico Burress got a couple years for shooting himself, Casey Anthony, now Zimmerman, etc.

At least we don't have Italy's "justice" system, I guess?

Re: Nice planet 4: Take 2. Action!

Some people are so entertaining. To prove how unruly the "mob" in Miami is after the Zimmerman verdict, someone posted video of people rioting.

Except it isn't actually Miami. It's Vancouver after the Bruins won the Stanley Cup there in 2011. Close enough.

We have 57 justice systems + a Federal one.

It is probable that Zimmerman would have been convicted in MA. But the trial was in FL and their standards/values/quality of prosecution are different than MA.

Guilty

There's something else that sticks out to me but I can't quite put my finger on it....

1) Casey Anthony female, white.
2) George Zimmerman, male, hispanic.
3) Somebody in a jail jumper, female, black.

Yeah, nobody knows who the third person is.

Yeah, nobody knows who the third person is.

Third lady is the one who just got 20 years for attempted murder. She had fired a gun at her abusive ex-husband who if I recall correctly had already been ordered to stay away. She did not even hit him with the shots.

I personally feel brining race into it is playing right into the wrong hands. From what little I did read of this ordeal, the evidence did not support a guilty verdict for murder II. Too much contradiction from witness and too many questions left unanswered or half answered. They started with an overcharge of murder II. I'm a fairly liberal person, but I am fine with the outcome based on what I read about with the evidence.

OJ Simpson? Rich black guy acquitted of double murder (even though blood from the victims was found in his Bronco and on his clothes) by a virtually all black jury after just four hours of deliberating in the longest criminal trial in American history.

It's a good thing nobody supporting the prosecution said anything stupid. You'd be honor bound to post it here, right?

Jumping to conclusions again, I see.

It wasn't put up by either "side" in the case. It was put up to trick the media who were anxious to report that the black community had gone nuts and was rioting in downtown Miami. In at least one case it succeeded until the news site realized it had been duped and pulled the story. Just goes to show how easy it is to fool some people these days when they jump to conclusions.

These would be the same media that repeatedly called Zimmerman "white", fraudulently edited tapes to show he was a "racist," spent days speculating whether he had used the word "coon" in his 911 call and used intentionally misleading video tape to "prove" he hadn't been injured in the confrontation with Martin (among other transgressions)?

But they weren't "jumping to conclusions," they were just "honestly reporting the news" right?

The really important question is do any of Zimmerman's lawyers have hot daughters who can get a reality show on E! and date a rapper/football/basketball player?

8-year old Chicago girl dead. Multiple blunt force injuries (some infested with maggots), burnings and strangulation--investigators say inflicted by. . .her grandmother.

Based on your reports, Chicago, despite all the talk of "revival" over the past 15-20 years, appears to be as bad as Detroit. In fact, the neighborhoods and some of the suburbs seem to be worse. Would you agree? Because honestly, it's one of the cities I considered moving to three years ago, prior to landing my current local job.

I consider it "home" but haven't lived there for years. I think these horror stories may give a distorted picture of reality. As I understand it, the murder rate is actually down a bit. But these gang shootings are apparently out of control. And that's what the vast majority of these incidents are all about. 1,000 shooting in the first six months of the year strikes me as an astonishing number. For sure the arts and culture are world class. Frank Lloyd Wright lived in my hometown for 20 years, developing the "prairie style" and there are more of his buildings there than anyplace in the world (including his studio/home and the Unity Temple).

I'd say it's a mixed blessing. If you ever visit the city, be sure to see the Art Institute and the Museum of Science and Industry, where they have a captured U-boat on display (indoors)! As I've explained, one of my motivations in posting the weekly casualty figures is to show the imbalance of concern as between the Martin/Zimmerman case and the carnage on the streets. Black on black crime is evidently not as compelling to some folks (including black "leaders" who realize there's no money or political advantage in exploiting these tragedies) as one pudgy Hispanic dude shooting a black 17-year old. In Chicago, 60 or 70 shootings over the 4th of July weekend (8 in just one incident!) with 12 dead. Have national media gotten their knickers in a twist over that? Will they ever?

Bottom line? Chicago has a looooong way to go before it's comparable to Detroit. To put it another way, Chicago has problems. Detroit is DOA.

I already posted this on Twitter over the weekend... It is very troubling how many people in this country don't understand the concept of "Burden of Proof".

True.

I have no issue with the verdict in the case and I believe it was the right conclusion. In fact I also agree that it was probably overcharged and perhaps shouldn't have been charged at all.

However, I will never understand why Mr. Zimmerman decided it necessary to get out of his car and follow the kid after he called the police (and was even told by the 911 operator NOT TO FOLLOW HIM). In my mind that immediately dismisses any concept of self defense. I do understand that as a mater of law it does not dismiss the self defense claim. As a matter of common sense in my mind it does.
