Who are these stupid people who are delaying or even forgoing immunizations for their kids? "I've read something on line," "I heard about a kid who. . ." "Somebody on Oprah said. . ." "A preservative (no longer in use) "causes" autism." J*sus, give me a break. These insufferably ignorant people aren't just satisfied with putting their own kids' health at risk, they want to put other kids at risk, too.

It's all because of that stupid doctor in England who form fitted a theory around autistic kids in his hospital, and his experiments used to prove it had improper techniques that resulted in "proving" his theory. Even though he now admitted the results were contaminated and false, the firestorm he created against vaccines hasn't died down, and who knows if it ever will. I saw a documentary where there's a town in England that has 75% unvaccinated children now.

Based on accusations? A hung jury? And acquittals? As I've said, I think he probably juiced and then lied about it to congress. And there are certainly others who did the same: Bonds, Sosa, McGuire. But what standards should the HOF voters apply? Is mere suspicion enough? Speaking strictly personally, the Hall lost a lot of credibility with me by keeping Ron Santo out for all those years, then electing him after his death. I'll quote Bill James, who named Santo the 7th best 3rd baseman of all time and in his top 100 players of all time. James says not having Santo in the Hall is like a zoo displaying puppies and kittens, while lions roam the streets.

I digress. The HOF and the voters have to decide what to do about the cheaters. Bonds was well on his way to a HOF career when he decided to cheat. What do we do about him? And Sosa? And McGuire? Maybe you're right, all the guys tainted by steroids should be kept out.

correlation vs. causation, over and over and over again. Back in my day, there were multiple expressions of the idea that "9 out of 10 heroin addicts started out on pot." While that was almost certainly true, it implied causation. It is also manifestly true that 10 out of 10 heroin addicts started out on milk. What does that prove?

So much of what we read and hear these days is phony. Like the guy writing the book about how good Americans are to strangers who shot himself, evidently to boost sales. It's getting so you have to take everything with a grain of salt. I seem to remember reading about a giant statue found in Cardiff, NY that turned out to be, uh, untrue.

I'd be curious to know the backstory there.

Kudos to the city councilwoman for keeping an even keel...that place was a circus.

Oops, I just realized Old Pio posted that earlier in the Elections thread. Sorry about the double.

The video makes me sad. I didn't realize things were in such sh*t shape in Oakland.
