I'd like to hear the full story. Wouldn't surprise me if it were true, but I also can't help but wonder if shouting MAGA stuff was the cover-up for a couple of common thugs, or some anti-gay black-on-black violence.

But I'm sure this will get me accused of carrying water for white Trump supporters, so who am I kidding?

Well I for one cannot imagine a Republican attacking a gay man or a black man. I mean, they're all about the Constitution and limited government, right?

The thing that’s bothered me about this story is that do we really thing a bunch of white MAGA morons are watching empire? And watching it with such it wrest that they can pick out the guy? And they’re carrying around a jug of bleach, a rope, and just happen to find him outside a subway at 2 am in that part of Chicago?

I dunno. Something doesn’t smell right here. He was obviously attacked but there’s a part of the story missing.

Why? Just because they hate Black People doesnt mean they wouldnt watch the show, listen to the music or whatever. Do you think the MAGAtes dont watch football or wont be able to pick out the players?

I am not saying it is a legit story, but your reasoning doesnt make it unreasonable it is legit either.

Yeah but if a long-running TV show on a major network filmed in your city, you'd probably have a passing familiarity with it as it would be covered in local social media and press.

Could be. All I said was something didn’t smell right. I’m sure it played out like he said. I just wouldn’t be surprised if we get a different story as the investigation plays out.

The story has a weird vibe to it, but we’ll have to see what the facts turn out to be. Sounds like a lot of security cameras in the area.

Did it say in the story he was attacked for being on the show - or that the attackers knew who he was?

I took it as: this probably happens to black people a lot and we actually heard about this one because the dude is a celeb. The were looking to lynch a negro and picked the wrong one.

Remember the Popular Front patriots in the UK who ran around dousing homeless people with gasoline and lighting them on fire? It's no leap to imagine Dumpies -- the exact same phenomenon -- doing the same thing to blacks, gays, liberals, Muslims, immigrants or (((you know who))) here.

Even if they recognized him it doesnt mean they have to watch the show. Maybe they saw him on commercials for the show...

I've read elsewhere (without confirmation) the surveillance video that police have seen they can see Smollett, but no attack nor attackers.

I gotta admit I had no idea who the guy was or what show this was. I'm not sure it would have made a difference if it was filmed in DC. There are dozens of shows and movies filming in NYC simultaneously and nobody notices half of them.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaay back when mookie worked at chemical bank he was walking around some Saturday and noticed filming for L&O. So mookie crossed the street with his newspaper and slide into the shot
