Jimmy's had a lot of critics in his tenure. It's hard to be a goalie in Detroit; I'd argue that only Toronto and Montreal are harsher media/fan markets. Wings fans will even whine about the backup if he's not playing well.

IMO, the only times that it's really been deserved were his sophomore slump in 2010-2011, and the 2012 playoffs when the whole team was disengaged vs. the Predatards.

Slumping Jimmy is still miles improved over the Jimmy in Grand Rapids that I heckled and grew to be a huge fan of. In '08, he had a tendancy to get rattled badly after letting in two goals. Get a third on him and he kept darting his eyes to the scoreboard, taking big drinks of water every stoppage, showing how nervous he was. A small group of us started to give him the ole college taunts.

Somewhere that next season, Jimmy grew a pair and had swagger in his play. The taunting wasn't getting to him, he started to steal games for the Griffins. That's when our small group, also Wings fans, became bigger fans. His own little fan club from Chicago. And it all started with us taunting him at Wolves/Griffins games.

He's really come a long way. Doesn't get rattled, and seems to just come up huge while looking effortless. Maybe that is partially why huge game saving moments look so pedestrian, because Jimmy plays so well.
