Truth. Have more Boston fan friends, and Secord sucks. ;)

It's funny that you keep saying that.

He was my favorite player from my first era as a Hawks fan.

Old habits die hard. ;)

Irony is, players like Ron Hextall, Dino C, and Bob Probert were my favorites growing up. Heck, I even was a fan of Gino Odjick.

Oh yeah, a SC final with no rooting interest but for both towns to implode.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

btw Jagr will have the longest gap between championship rounds of anyone ever for the US big 4 sports.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe he may have been playing, and beating , the Hawks.

I still remember the bar I was in, who I was with and the conversation I had when I saw Mario do this:

Not a Hawks fan and he said to me "That call may have just cost you the Cup."

It was game one and the Hawks had just gone 12-1 (iirc) in the first 3 rounds and I knew he was right and said so. You could just feel how catastrophic that was for some reason.

I hate Mario for the dive, but I hate the refs a whole lot more for buying it. Especially at the end of game 1 of the Finals.

Oh, and I had forgotten that it was Steve Smith that had taken the phantom penalty. He had another unfortunate moment in the playoffs for Edmonton...

Regarding Jagr, hard to fathom that someone on the ice that long ago is still playing. My life has changed over an incredible amount since then and the Hawks - who he last played - have turned over the roster 10 times including dying and then coming back to life. Incredible.

Tweeted by Luongo around the time Kaner ended it last night:

LOLOL man I never get sick of that song!!!! #becauseitsthecup

Reminds me of this little feature that a Vancouver station did after we had beaten the Nucks in 2009 & 2010 and were the proverbial monkey on their playoff backs...

Hilarious.

NBC decided it wants Saturday night games anyway.

Games 1+2 are in Chicago on Wednesday and Saturday, 3+4 in Boston Monday and Wednesday, 5 in Chicago Saturday, 6 in Boston Monday and 7 in Chicago on Wednesday. NBCSN has games 1-3 and NBC takes over for game 4 thru the end of the series.

I'm going to the HHOF on Saturday the 22nd. The first four games better be split, I want to see the real Cup.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

I just heard the audio of Edwards likening the blocked shot to getting up the beach at Normandy...

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

That was quite possibly the most absurd correlation I've ever heard. What a clown. How embarrassing.

Imagine how the player feels. Probably just wants it to go away.

Wasn't anyone there to talk him down?

Remember how Kellen Winslow Jr. got crushed (by the media) for calling himself a warrior or soldier, not even putting himself into an actual battle?

I thought that crushing was way over the top. Who the hell didn't know that he meant it in a football context.

Edwards' idiocy is a direct correlation to getting up the beach though. What a fool.

Uggh, not crazy about 3 day breaks when they stay in the same city, but I guess it's for TV. But I don't want the NHL turning into the NBA when it feels like there's 3/4 days between every game.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

Rangers have "permission" to speak to Lindy Ruff but the ESPN article doesn't mention why they would need permission to begin with. Anyway, really don't think Ruff is the answer for them.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

Saw something similar about Tortorella and teh Dallas Stars. Why would he need permission? The Rangers fired him, didn't they?

Because they are still under contract with their respective teams who just "fired" them. It really wasn't a firing in the sense they stop getting paid. They are still being paid, and thus still employees of said teams.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

After canning Ralph Kreuger by Skype, the Oilers today introduced new head coach Dallas Eakins.

The Edmonton Oilers have hired Dallas Eakins as their new head coach, replacing the fired Ralph Krueger.

Eakins is the fourth coach in the past five seasons for the Oilers, who have not made the playoffs since reaching the Stanley Cup final in 2006.

This is the first time I've seen it described like this. At what point do you not need permission? What if you fire a guy with two years left on his deal?
