NHL hockey returns to the 'Peg! Maybe?

Re: NHL hockey returns to the 'Peg! Maybe?

He seems to just know. When I met him, I had some punk teenager who I had never seen before come up from behind me and ask say,"MNS, right? I'm MH14"

It was really creepy. :D

Your pick has been all over the board...I wonder how he could have figured it out.

Agree. And moose, I'm sad I didn't meet you at the F5. I'm not all stalker-like, but you are one I'd like to meet.

Re: NHL hockey returns to the 'Peg! Maybe?

I was under the impression that those games were done by MSUM/SCSU, rather than by the WCHA, and that the gates were taken by those schools... Just found the game recap, and it states that MSUM made $100,000 to play at the X...

I was at the Final Five, but before I tell you anymore, I'm curious to know why you think you sat near me.
This is correct..but fans don't care about the money unless something is done with it to improve the program..which wasn't the case, as that 100,000 sure would've been nice to put towards a coach who can get us to the very least to Saint Paul.

Check your rep.:)

I remember this.:p I yelled down to con and almington years ago from the suite level as well. :o I always knew the meeting spot was over by 114 or whatever, but as a 12,13,14,15 year old kid, I was a little nervous to go talk to a bunch of older people. But I had the balls to talk to MNS and Sloe, as they were Sioux fans.:p Plus, MNS sits in front of me, so when I look at the goal by my end of the ice, I see that Green Jones #3 jersey.:p

There was once a time when Milwaukee might have been one of the best options for a team like the Coyotes to relocate.

This was probably around that time. (For reference: I was in first grade... In an alternate universe where the Jets- or someone else- moved to Milwaukee instead of Phoenix, I would've rooted for them in the North Stars' absence and remained a fan even after the Wild showed up. Weird.)

Well, I was there, but that wasn't me  I only spent part of one period of the UAA/CC game in the stands and the rest in the press box. Want to know what I look like? I'm on the right in the green shirt, Goon's on the left looking like he's texting and if you've seen Lakeland PTV broadcasts of BSU hockey, you'll recognize Scott Williams who is also my co-host for College Hockey Tonight in the middle in this pic taken of us at the X af the Final Five:

edit - I've got a pretty good idea who you think you saw though. Funny if true. They are married and yes, avid Beaver fans. My wife did not come as that was a business trip for me and my sister lives in Nashville and doesn't care a bit about hockey.

Alright, cool. I just felt like that guy I saw looked so familiar and I didn't know why I would think that, so i just took a shot at it.:p

*ing $Bill Wirtz.

He even nixed the Blues to MKE deal (of which, wasn't that why the Bradley Center was built to woo the Blues?).

I've learned quite a bit in my short time here in Chicago about how $Bill made the NHL his b*tch. I think that may be partially why Bettman and Co. are leery of allowing a mega-billionaire back into the boys club.

As a native Chicagoan, and someone who had thoroughly enjoyed the Rocky Wirtz era, I despise $ Bill as much as the next guy. That said, it's an interesting theory (mega-billionaire not being welcome, especially, re: Balsille's failed efforts to buy a team), but I'd just call it that - a theory. Each individual, I hope, is judged on their own merit, and all I hear is that True North is conducting itself exactly as the NHL is asking (not putting the cart before the horse, not starting a season ticket campaign until the team is actually sold, etc.). Something others (Balsille) have not been able to do.

Re: NHL hockey returns to the 'Peg! Maybe?

I missed this - I feel honored - star like

Actually I just want to point and laugh at you. Don't get too big of an ego boost. :p Besides, if you developed an ego, you'd have to become a Gopher fan. :D

Re: NHL hockey returns to the 'Peg! Maybe?

really Brent?:D

You may still be in high school, but that doesn't mean you have to act like you are in middle school.

Seriously, a non-zero chance that if you show up at the F5 tailgate that you end up in either a snowbank, dumpster, or muddy puddle if you keep acting in such a sophomoric way.

I wouldn't question him. Unlike Bro Gin, Almsy will clock you upside the head. I'm living proof. *er punched me in the head when I was hungover all to hell. It hurt.

And no, Almsy, I'm not mad anymore. All has been forgiven. :) :p

(Once upon a time, I read up on this in the Madison.com and JSOnline archives, so here goes...)

It was built to lure the NHL in general. Lloyd Pettit was trying to get any team he could to move there, and just wasn't successful in the late 80s or early 90s. None of the teams that were looking at moving at the time wound up moving, and for a while he looked at expansion franchises. Of course, Pettit looked at the sweetheart deals that the Gund Brothers got for the Sharks, and the way that the NHL handled their deals to expand in the south, and he very quickly got the impression that he wasn't wanted and gave up on the whole venture.

Then, within the next five years, the North Stars, Jets, Nordiques and Whalers all wound up moving. On one hand, that's just bad luck on Pettit quitting at the wrong time (and I don't blame him for quitting). On another hand, the tale of Milwaukee not getting an NHL team is a telling sign of what a Rich Boys Club the NHL was (is?). On yet another hand, this tale helps cement the fact that I ****ing loathe the Blackhawks (for Wirt$'s role in holding Milwaukee back) and the Sharks- who I also hate on account of my being a North Stars as a kid (Blackhawks being the enemy and the Gund Bros. going to San Jose the way that they did being one of the primary reasons the North Stars wound up leaving town).

In short: may Bill Wirtz continue to rot in hell, and may the Gund Brothers join him there.

It hurt MY head! I literally sat there for a second, thought about the situation, and slugged him in the shoulder. Had I reacted instantly, he'd have a black eye or broken nose (depending on my aim). But that would have escalated quickly, and that's no fun. Besides, Almsy's a friend. And he agreed that the situation would have escalated quickly, and what happened was justified. :)

The problem is that you were not acting in a pareto efficient way. Thus, my warning.
