NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

The Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs have announced partnerships with Alberta and Toronto of the CWHL (respectively).

Team Alberta will scrap this blue nonsense and go with a proper colour: red.

Well Team Blue smoked Team Red the other day 7-1, an upset of major proportions.

Does that mean they'll go on strike soon???

Interesting how this thread was started more than two years ago, and today the affiliation came to fruition! I am thrilled for the CWHL today. This will ensure their survival for seasons to come. Hopefully the NHL teams in Montreal and Boston will follow suit, and let's not forget Brampton. Hopefully some NHL team will enter into an agreement with them.

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

Here's an article that was linked up on Facebook. For lack on an active generic CWHL thread (yes, I do realize this is a college hockey site), I'm posting the link here.

"With NHL at odds, CWHL shows heart of hockey" -- http://w.espn.go.com/espnw/commentary/8744669/

Great story. And very telling. I went to find the CW webite and it wasnt there. Nice....still havent got their act together. And they should not be calling themselves "a proessional league"... far from it. Kind of sad really.

Nice post Dave...sorry I didn't get a chance to say hi while you were in NH...DC said she would introduce us but alas....btw, I was the guy on crutches....Merry Christmas

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

Thanks Dave. I'm still shaking my head a bit at the lack of publicity that the CW has generated especially since there's a huge void with the NHL out. This is a great time to be hyping the women's game and yet I've seen literally nothing this season so far in the press in Ontario. This is a great time to be building and putting the womens game out there for everyone to see.(...and BTW, having games on a Sunday/Monday at noon in some minor hockey venue isnt the way to do it.)

But that's okay...I'm watching TSN's comprehensive coverage of all the World Juniors right now, so I'm getting my long overdue hockey fix elsewhere....)

It does seem like the CWHL would do well to have a marketing person, as well as better scheduling as you alluded to.

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

SeymoreHockey, going to be heading up to TO the weekend of 1/12 - 1/13 for the Toronto games against Brampton! Cannot wait to get there! Hoping to also get up there for the Clarkson Cup, when they decide where it is going to be held. I think they may have a problem as I would think it would be pretty hard to find ice time for a tournament now. Selfish wish on my part, but I'll bet the Alice Noble Ice Arena in Wooster, OH would be open to that (LOL), provided the Wooster Oilers are not home that weekend! But then, I guess it would be sacrilegious to hold the Clarkson Cup in the states, now, wouldn't it. In other news, received the Toronto Furies jersey I ordered last week! It will officially be my favorite Christmas present as soon as I send it back so they can put the numbers on it that it was supposed to have when I received it!

Hey there OSA...good luck with your trip to Brampton...it's beautiful this time of year...NOT! Just got back from a trip to Quebec and Toronto yesterday and found the driving conditions deplorable!! Hvent heard anything about the Clarkson Cup, but I'm sure the dinosaurs that control the OWHA will have their wrinkled hands in the pot somewhere along the line. They are the ultimate puppet masters when it comes to the CWHL anyway. I'm still disappoined that there has been absolutely ZERO publicity for any CW games all year. It's just like minor hockey all over again. HUGE opportunity to make an impact during a lockout season....Sad, but true..but not unexpected.

Well, here is a story on the Clarkson Cup (listed on the CWHL website)

http://cwhl.ca/view/cwhl/news/news_63252

As far as publicity goes, Toronto played against Alberta at the Maple Leafs home rink (Air Canada Centre) that drew over 5,000 fans. Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames have committed money to their local CWHL franchise, Boston and Montreal now need to step up the plate. It's great hockey, people need to go watch, and once they do, they will be hooked.

Never, ever, happen with Boston.

Glad to hear they found a sheet of ice for the Clarkson Cup. That's not easy to do this time of year!
