NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

No time for the small stuff ...too busy planning a wedding...hey...we even invited a few Calgaryites, so don't have any fires the last weekend of June...nobody there to answer the call.:D

...and besides, the only thing worse than being in Elmira in the summer is being there in the winter!!:p

JC Seyless...you getting married again? What does this one not know that the other three found out?

Is my invite in the mail?

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

CanHockGuy or Seymore ... Anyone heard anything further on this? I'll have to periodically check that CWHL website and see if there is anything new regarding teams, rosters, etc..

I'm seeing someone on Sunday that may be able to shed some light on this. We'll see.

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

Nothing yet...just waiting to hear what shape/form the evaluation camps will take. And what teams remain...and what the financial picture will be...lots of questions still in the air.

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

Cool! I'll check back then.

Talked to a guy at a hockey meeting tonight. He is a play by play guy for a major sports network. As far as he knows there is nothing. There was some talk a year ago but the major stumbling block was a sponsorship issue. SURPRISE SURPRISE! as Gomer used to say. :D

Dang! That's a shame. Oh well. Maybe things will change and something will materialize in the coming months.

My sources are players, and a CWHL coach who were all at the meeting that ratified the original info provided. Stay tuned.

Well, that's good news. Hopefully some sponsors step up so this league can flourish. I can't believe hockey season is going to be over here in a couple more weeks. Aw well, September/October will be here before I know it and hockey season will start again.

July 16, 2001? ......Good luck to everyone involved. :)

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

Well, that's a good start. Sounds like things are moving forward with this. It will be interesting to see where some of the Olympians end up playing. :)

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

Typo...looks like they're going ahead with the new-look league. I'm just concerned that it's affiliated with the OWHA!!!

I agree...if the OWHA is still involved it remains doomed to continued mediocrity and poor decision-making. SJS and the OWHA both need to go for the league to be the best it can be.

On the positive side, reducing teams to eliminate Ottawa and Vaughan are good moves, as there is insufficient talent available to offer a quality product. And adding a stateside option in Boston also makes infinite sense. Great news for graduating NCAA players and possibly some American Olympians, many of whom are on the East Coast.
A draft will also address significant competitive balance issues between current Toronto areas teams--however as proposed this will only occur in the long term.

It's unfortunate that the current players are still being allowed to stack their Toronto area teams so they can continue to play with their cronies. What isn't clearly stated is whether team choice for "current players" applies only to those in the league last season--as a strict definition of the term would suggest--(which does not include returning Olympians!), or whether anyone previously associated with a particular team is still able to return back to it. Hopefully not: Burlingon needs some Olympian-calibre players too. Current players who happened to be with Vaughan and Ottawa certainly don't have that same choice of avoiding the draft.

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

From the CWHL Website...

Information for the 2010-2011 Season

Thanks so much for your interest in the world’s highest caliber women’s hockey league. This is a very exciting time for women’s hockey! Our league is going through a bit of a restructuring phase and we are in the midst of attempting to structure the league to allow the best players in the world a place to play and prosper.

Our board of directors has created a plan that will initially create a five team league with a team in Montreal, a team in Boston, and three teams in the Greater Toronto area.

The Montreal and Boston teams will be an open tryout, whereas there will be a draft for all new players wishing to play in the Toronto area with a tryout to follow.

To submit your name to be a general manager, please fill out the application and submit to the executive director cwhled@owha.on.ca by June 15th. GM Job Description

To submit your name to be a coach, please fill out the application and submit to the executive director cwhled@owha.on.ca by June 30th. Coach Job Description.

To have your name entered into the draft as a player for one of the three Toronto teams, or to try out for the Montreal or Boston teams, please have your name added to the CWHL list by filling out the application and emailing it to the executive director cwhled@owha.on.ca by July 16th.

This is the first time a draft has been administered in the CWHL. Up to 5 players will be protected by the three CWHL teams (coaches and GM’s) in the Greater Toronto Area. An evaluation skate will be held in July for coaches/GM’s to evaluate prospective players. Date TBA. The skate will not be mandatory but will serve to rank players for the draft. At the conclusion of player ranking, the first CWHL draft will then occur, date TBA. First selections in the draft will go to a team that has not protected their allotted 5 players thus serving to equalize the teams. The remainder of the draft will consist of drafting players that have submitted their forms to the CWHL indicating they would like to play on one of the three Greater Toronto Teams.

Tryouts will then occur for all CWHL teams in September, dates TBA. Players may tryout for other teams once released from their original team.

After your application is received, the CWHL will be in touch with an email with more details when they become available.

** Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Applications and resumes will be handled in the strictest confidence, with all material submitted becoming the property of the CWHL.

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

Guys, totally off topic here, but can any of you direct me to a website where I could get a reasonably-priced replica Team Canada Hockey Jersey (2010 Olympic Version), and also have it customized (my name and number on the back)? Also, if you have info on sizes, that would be cool, too. I know with the (Ohio State) Nike jerseys I can wear a large without a problem. With others, I gotta go XL. I think my Columbus Blue Jacket jerseys are XL's. I was poking around myself, looking, and based on some of the sizes, I might have to go XXL (ouch). Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. I have a b-day coming up at the end of the month and I think someone is going to get me a 1980 USA Miracle On Ice jersey for my collection (been getting a LOT of questions about my size and what color I would want), but I am not sure anyone will think of getting me a Team Canada jersey so I might have to get that one myself. Ok, I feel stupid, I can get a Team Canada jersey here on USCHO.com. With the personalization charge, though, it's $204.99. I wasn't really planning to pay that much for it. Like I said, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
