Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon
The problem as I see it is that hockey is a business and in any business you need a revenue stream to survive. The revenue stream for hockey is traditionally gate receipts, concessions and television rights.
I hope I'm proven wrong but who is going to come out to see these women play in those markets? Mom, Dad, Gramma, Grampa, a few friends and well you get my drift. With no one in the stands to buy the popcorn, peanuts and crackerjack well...there are two of the three revenue streams that are gonzo which leaves television coverage...prob not going to happen.
The Oval Extreme folded here because the sponsors finally gave up. No one was coming to watch the games even when the Minnesota team was in town. There were Olympians galore on the ice when these two teams met and I've been to games where there were maybe 15 or 20 people there to watch.
I truly wish them all the luck in the world and hope that they can somehow find a way to make this thing fly...but if the past is any indication of what the future holds for the womens game at the Pro level...this most recent attempt is doomed to fail.
By the way, your arse, I heard you could see it all the way from Queens.
