NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

I've already scouted the hotel situation and there are some really reasonable rooms up there (mostly near the airport). It's gonna be fun. As soon as I see Toronto's schedule, we'll start planning our trip.

osualum, FYI, if you are coming to Toronto, the best thing to do is to bid on your rooms on priceline. You can get a really nice hotel room (3+ star) in the airport area for around $50 per night on a consistent basis. No need to spend more....there are no good hotels any closer to the Mastercard centre anyway.

OSU...you would be better served to stay in Mississauga along the South Sheridan Way. From Burlington to the MC Centre is a 25 minute trip...so, you could catch a game either at the MC or in Burlington. As well, the rates are much better than the airport plus, you wont need to pay $20 a night for parking!!

Message me and send me your email and I will ensure you get a schedule. Just don't expect it too soon!!

Brokentwigg, Trillium, thank you both for the information! Brokentwigg or Trillium, you can email me anytime at osualum86@verizon.net or if it doesn't go through, try osualum86@frontier.net. At some point they are switching it over. If I don't reply right away, don't worry. Mrs 86 and I only check our email twice a week. Am I correct that home ice for the Toronto team is going to be at Mastercard Centre? I thought I had read that somewhere.

23,

Everyone registered was picked. There really was no reason to have as many rounds as they did. After about the 20th, it really made no sense to continue. Especially with teams having 5 players from the get go and with only 18 to a roster, it brought a relatively decent evening to a slow and unnecessary continuation!

As for the questionable picks, deals were done before the draft for certain players to "not" be selected so certain teams could select them. It's as social a game as it always has been. And, LOL, not being Bitterman there Seymore, LOL, I just have the pleasure of knowing most of these players and hopefully, the push is on to get SJS out of the public eye as I have been told!

Anyway you look at it, Boston is STACKED!!

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

Sorry, but some of these players are a joke.... One in particular couldn't play Midget AA. What gives? Football squads? Oh ya, we gotta start somewhere........ Start with a proper evaluation!

CanHock, I have said from Day 1 that this whole thing was a sham and that it was a band-aid solution for the ever mounting credibility of this league.

No offense but, a goalie taken with the 9th pick, who just happens to have a family tie to that particular team. You NEED to have people from outside the league overseeing a "draft" of this nature or there will always be lingering questions about its authenticity.

Coaches are still unsure as to whether there will be a salary, players will NOT get paid and may have to pay a little, and players have already bolted including a Top pick who will remain anonymous. I mean, I don't want to go on an OWHA style rant but, aren't they one in the same??:(

Get rid of SJS, the OW and their people, and start the ball rolling!! The players controlling this are, no offense, OLD, and will be out soon. :D

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

No...not everyone who registered was picked...:)

And yes, there are some REAL questionable selections...girls that, I agree, could not play Midget A.

Now the "Tryouts"....haha...have at it!!!

You are right, not everyone who was registered was picked. Some left for greener pastures...

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

Ya, looks like all the band wagon girls are going to pay the tab for the startup. Well, again, I guess they have to suck money from somewhere. On with the tryouts....What a joke.....On with it! 5 grand a pop with guaranteed icetime till ? :)

Triili is right, but the only problem with sites like Priceline and Hotwire is you don't get your choice of hotels. Let me know when you are coming and I will get you the associate rate at a Starwood property in the GTA. Give me a few weeks notice....

For the longest time, I too was leary of using Priceline and Hotwire because I wasn't sure what I was buying. However, I learned of people who used them regularly and were never disappointed with quality, and getting tired myself of paying $140+/night for frequent hotel stays even on discount sites, I started trying it too. You can't beat the value. Frankly, I could care less if I stay in a Doubletree or a Marriott if it means I can get 2 nights for the price of one.

If you're nervous, start with 4 star or 3 1/2 star hotels only...I would never go below 3 stars.

Once you get used to staying in Hiltons, Hyatts, Marriotts, Doubletrees and Wyndhams for $45-90 a night in popular destinations, trust me you'll never want to book any other way again. For $40-60 in Toronto airport area, you will get one of these.

Some of my best Hotwire deals todate have been a $650-listed online-rate room for only $119 (Hyatt Resort), and a $229-online-rate room for only $89 (Aloft, (Starwood)). My most successful Priceline bids todate have included $45 for Courtyard Marriott (listed online $169) and $50 for Wyndham Resort (listed online $189). Spend the difference on a really nice dinner....or another vacation!

Trillium & Brokentwigg, Thank you both very much for all the great tips. All of that information is going to help make our little trip that much more enjoyable. As for when we are coming up, we're thinking sometime in October for opening week of the season or one of the early games. I think we'll try priceline on this one. $50 a night is way less than we planned on spending so I am more than fine with that. We're looking at a couple nights (Saturday and Sunday), then heading home Monday. I am thinking these CWHL games will be on Saturday, then we'll hit the HHoF on Sunday. Mrs 86 is a big Sidney Crosby fan, so I think she will want a picture with that game-winning puck from the Olympics. We are really looking forward to this trip. October can't get here soon enough!

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

ahhhh flashback........
"Who ownsss the Chiefs!!"

"Who own da Chiefs?"

"OWNS ... OWNS!"

Gotta love the Slapshot/Joe McGrath references. I watched my dvd once with the Hanson Brothers commentary. They said at the end Strother Martin had to do that locker room speech, like, 12 times because the guys couldn't keep a straight face while he was doing it. Great movie ... still LMBO everytime I watch it.

Re: NHL-CWHL affiliation on the horizon

My guess is this...if there is anything to announce in respects to the CWHL and the NHL, it would be announced at the World Hockey Summit in two weeks in Toronto. But I firmly believe that they are still a long way away from putting a product on the ice which would be comparable to the WNBA and something that the NHL would be fond of supporting.
