NHL 2026: The Olympics Will Be Mammoth!

The Wild logo (Kepler be damned) is a great representation of the state and the nickname which is in essence "wilderness" - a full moon (setting sun?), pine trees, a river, a loon, a wild animal, and the North Star.

Canucks head coach Adam Foote and his staff were fired Tuesday, as new general manager Ryan Johnson cleaned house five days after taking the job.
Assistant coaches Scott Young, Kevin Dean and Brett McLean were also relieved of their duties, the team announced.

Canucks hit the reset button - get a new GM and are cleaning house - yet have made the playoffs twice in the same 10-year timespan that the Red Wings have failed to appear. 🤔

Vegas supposedly had their appeal denied.

Probably isn’t helping that they’ve denied multiple teams a chance to interview Bruce Cassidy.

Steve built a great farm system. Too bad I don't trust him to get the trades right when it comes to moving the redundant pieces.

A note on the IIHF World Championships: I understand that it’s timing is a long tradition, and that tradition is hard to break, but I wonder how much opportunity for growth they throw away with its current schedule.

And I don’t mean this from a North American “it’s happening during the NHL playoffs” perspective. From a strictly European perspective it makes little sense. The opening weekend last weekend was during Eurovision, a major TV event. This week and this weekend feature most of either the major cup finals or final matches of the major soccer leagues plus the EuroLeague Basketball Final Four. The final weekend has the Champions League final against it.

I get that the tournament has its major following in countries like Sweden, Finland, Latvia etc. but I wonder how much of the tournament gets buried amongst the other events.

I wonder if they should go to every other year or something.

that was something I wanted to discuss with the IIHF leaders I was working with this winter for WJ, but they were all so focused on the upcoming olympics that I was never able to

I am fine with it not being commercialized/optimized to death. It is OK if there are events where the 2nd to 4th tier athletes get to play. I only care about this tourney because there are a few Wings, Wings prospects, or former Broncos playing.

Shrug.

Push it until June and it’s going up against either the WC or Euros every other year, though. August probably makes the most sense, but then you have guys trying to play competitively after being off for the summer.

To be fair, it is already very commercialized. Unless the giant Skoda logo at center ice is some weird Euro tradition I don’t know about.

In an ideal world it would be at the time that the World Juniors take place, at least if they had to play it every year. Every four years opposite the Olympics in February would be best.
