NHL 2024: SLC Puck

It's been rough for the last 10 years or so, but after a 25-year run of broad success, I haven't complained much.

While Yzerman was bound to have a longer leash than many other GM options, he's been here almost 6 years. There's been progress from the pile of dogshit Kenny Holland left him with, but they still can't break through the playoff ceiling. By comparison, the Lightning had shown considerably more progress after 4-5 years of his front office leadership, though he did benefit from having Stamkos there already (and Hedman too, IIRC).

I do think he has to make the playoffs next year. Firing Lalonde and bringing in an experienced HC was likely one of the last cards he had left to play to protect his job.

Almost time for the best part of hockey season!

It’s almost time for “let’s see what flimsy excuses American NHL players from non-playoff teams come up with to skip the World Championships” season!
