I saw the video. Petgarve’s leg gets unnaturally high, even if you consider he’s lost his balance. Expected a Clint Malarchuk type crash, but Johnson is standing nearly straight up so contact is around 5 feet above the ice.
 
Oh god, just read that this happened at end of second period, which is when kids run down to throw foam pucks onto ice. All those kids in their fancy dress - what a traumatizing event for them too

Looking at what's trending, it's still a cesspool of impotent racist rage. Saw a comment from someone who has a burner account that they don't follow anyone with and according to them the story/racist garbage is being pushed by the algorithm, which means the botskis and right-wing trolls have latched onto it.

there are some hockey fans pointing out that petgrave was banned from what was basically a goon league but that still doesn’t make him a murderer. Instincts can make you flail wildly when losing balance

but the botskis and trolls probably can’t even name two hockey teams

I did just see the partial video without meaning to - thank god it’s been cut to just the few seconds before the kick and then the kick. I agree that the leg looks unnaturally high.

still not convinced it was intended to harm but it’s not something you really ever see

Nhl literally had a post today about how inclusive they are lol. Sure, it’s nice they’re being more sensitive to people with sensory issues but their leadership are just the dumbest effing people.

side note, oshies company has sold out of whatever stock they had of Kevlar neck and wrist guards
 
The Point is reporting that a lot of nhl ers are really trying neck guards out. Looks like this will be the Dale Earnhardt moment for player safety. Well, a little.

I just listened to the USCHO Weekend Update podcast this morning. And they reminded me of the incident with the Army player last year who was cut in the neck, and quick action by the trainer saved his life. Even those types of incidents didn't seem to move the needle for others wearing neck guards.
