NHL 2018-19 Part 1 - No power outage in Toronto this year!!

Re: NHL 2018-19 Part 1 - No power outage in Toronto this year!!

Sounds like Pavelski on a 3 year deal for 7-7.25 million per in Dallas

Re: NHL 2018-19 Part 1 - No power outage in Toronto this year!!

Sounds like Zuccarello and Hartman to the Wild. Meh.

Two left shots playing top right wing minutes. They won't be able to score. AND to top it all off they're paying Zuccarello who is 32, 5 years 6 million a year. Insanity.

It may not be so much that he is ok going to AZ...he just also doesn't have a choice even if he wasn't.

When you create your "no trade" list, don't you kind of make the choice of where is acceptable and where is not?

Yes.
You think that list was strictly 10 teams just because that's all he could pick?
I'd bet he had teams on there he doesn't like..but ran out of teams.

Speculation Anders Lee could get 9 mil a year.
Zucs is cheap by comparison.

So the Wings took back Filppula on a 2 year deal.

And picked up Nemeth, the guy who broke Mantha's hand in the Wings-Avs line brawl last year, to bolster the defense.

Maybe he can teach the kid to throw a proper right hook? :p

Flip! *swoon* Another mediocre player I like. And he's coming home!

I can't wait to resume yelling "Goddammit Flip!" during games again.

Although, I never did stop yelling it because Frans Nielsen was just as terrible.

He was a great role player for us last year. For a "mediocre" player he makes a lot of clutch plays.

He does, but he also has some boneheaded plays at the most inopportune times. I have a terrible record when it comes to liking Red Wings players. Ericsson, Dekyser, Flip, Helm, Nosek, Howard... :o

(That sound you hear is fellow Red Wings fan F2B&G smashing his head against his keyboard. :D)

Re: NHL 2018-19 Part 1 - No power outage in Toronto this year!!

If Helm had hands, he could've been Athanasiou. As it is, he's had a great career as a penalty killer and late game clock-eater.

It's not that Flip was a bad player, it's that he wanted to be paid like he was a 30 goal/60-70 point 2C when in reality he's a borderline 2C/3C whose ceiling is 20 goals/60 pts, but he averages more like 15 goals/40 points.

I'm not arguing with your experience, just saying for his short tenure with us I really appreciated his contribution. He was very low profile, got little credit, and drew difficult and unpleasant assignments and seemed to always be able to handle them a notch above his natural talent. He was, at least for that brief time, the classic exemplar of an uncelebrated player who does all that's asked of him and then on top of it sometimes really surprises you in a key situation. He also seemed to be effective: those good efforts translated into good outcomes enough that I got to thinking he was "making his own luck."

You always need those guys peppered through your lineup. Good luck to him with you guys.

Canada nice.

Ontario’s Tourism, Culture and Sport Minister Lisa MacLeod has apologized for accosting Senators owner Eugene Melnyk at a Rolling Stones concert last weekend about the team’s poor record in recent years. Melnyk recounted the event to the Ottawa Citizen:

“So I’m just there, we’ve got families and friends in a small group and I’m surrounded by people from Ottawa — and I see from the corner of my eye somebody trying to bust through,” Melnyk said in a phone interview Thursday.

“I’m thinking, ‘OK, might be a crazed fan and that’s fine. I’ve gotten used to it. And all of a sudden it’s this woman and she yells at me, ‘Do you know who I am?’

“I can’t place her so I said, ‘I’m sorry. No.’ And she yells, ‘I am your minister and you’re a f-cking piece of sh-t and you’re a f-cking loser’.”

Conflicting reports about Don Cherry. Some reports have him leaving Hockey Night in Canada, but he says he'll be back.
