NHL 2018-19 Part 1 - No power outage in Toronto this year!!

Re: NHL 2018-19 Part 1 - No power outage in Toronto this year!!

So, for the statistics nerds out there, what if Boston gets swept in the Final?

That would be an interesting path to the cup- Columbus sweeps and then gets swept from round 1 to 2. Carolina sweeps and gets swept from rounds 2-3. If Boston sweeps and gets swept.. hmmmm...

While that would be interesting I really don't see that happening. This is sure shaping up to be Boston's Cup to lose. I'm OK with that.

I don't think anyone saw any of the sweeps happening- this was supposed to be Tampa's year, and look what happened to them.

If the western conference can stretch their series to 7 games, well... That would be a week off for Boston.

Must be something in the water up here, because the Bruins remind me of the recent Patriots team. What we thought of as a fatal flaw ended up being a strength. B's have a shaky big game goalie and 1 good line. Come playoff time Rask has turned into Ken Dryden and they're getting scoring from the top 3 lines and the defense. Reminds me of the Pats non-existent pass rush during the regular season turning into the '85 Bears during their SB run.

The CBJ won a couple of games against Boston in Round 2. But it's still a remarkable set of results.

And yes, winning the President's Cup and getting swept in Round 1 is quite analogous. Finishing up early, resting & getting healthy isn't paying future dividends this year...

In Worlds action, the record for futility is well within reach for Italy. -38 with two games to go after 10-0 and 8-0 defeats to the Russians and Czechs. They need to stay within six of Norway and Austria.

On this same line of thinking, it will be interesting what the IOC decides to do with China in 2022. South Korea hung around Division 1 after they were granted the Olympics, though a couple of these were in the B Division. On the other hand, China is in 2A and on the wrong end of the standings, staving off relegation by a single point while racking up losses to Spain and Australia. Even if they were suddenly able to get good, they still wouldn't get into the top division in time for the Olympics. If they're granted an autobid, we could seriously see some 20-0 games, especially if the NHL releases players.

USA notches a 7-1 win over Denmark this morning.

Need two points to clinch a playoff spot, and will probably need both as Slovakia has Britain and Denmark left. The US has Germany and Canada. Germany has already made it to the playoffs, but they haven't played any of the current top four in the division, and their best win was 4-1 over France.

Saw an infuriating tweet a couple days ago.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">A 7 month-old child has seen as many Boston NFL/MLB/NBA/NHL teams reach a Final as a 38 year-old fan of Minnesota’s NFL/MLB/NBA/NHL teams.</p>— Nate Wells (@gopherstate) <a href="https://twitter.com/gopherstate/status/1129216937689538561?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 17, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
