NHL 2017.1: We turn over a new Leaf and still find a Penguin

MLB has been actively trying to destroy its fan base for forty years.
Oh MLB is an easy #2 with the owners collusion in the 80's and the resulting strike in 1994, but the NHL still takes #1 with all the lockouts.

NFL reminds you that it focuses on alienating its players instead.

That's gotta be the biggest thing but it's hilarious to see people talk about scoring being a problem and then the league literally does nothing about it. And it wouldn't take much either, they could just call the rule book like they did in 2007.

The other thing is how poorly the league is marketed. I remember when they held a focus group to try and figure out how they were gonna sell the lockout to people and make the players look bad. The focus group had basically all white people and like a single woman there. I wouldn't doubt that's basically who all their marketing in general is directed towards and yet they can't seem to figure out how to grow the sport's popularity.

What's funny is the head of marketing for the NHL is a buddy of mine from NYC. Not sure he was in charge during the lockout though.

Re: NHL 2017.1: We turn over a new Leaf and still find a Penguin

We need Tony X (of viral Twitter user discovers playoff hockey, IT'S LIT) to be in charge of marketing. Easy.

Mantha, Frk, and Larkin with a combined 3-3-6 line tonight. Hey, maybe the "kids" are alright. :)

Re: NHL 2017.1: We turn over a new Leaf and still find a Penguin

That FML line is pretty good!

Re: NHL 2017.1: We turn over a new Leaf and still find a Penguin

Wow - hoped for a win but didn't see this coming.

Welcome home Brandon Saad.

Found out yesterday that our new cable provider doesn't offer Center Ice.

Was peeved coz the sales person said they did and even made a show of calling "someone" to confirm it.

Got a Roku though and it worked really slick and the picture was penomenal.

Get the postgame show too! Never did with Center Ice.

Well, it's a start...

Curious what happened with Schmaltz....

Well, I'll be dammed, you're right Mookie! The Stanley Cup winner has NEVER come from ninth in the conference or lower!

Re: NHL 2017.1: We turn over a new Leaf and still find a Penguin

Well he's technically wrong. The regular season matters in that you must finish in the top 8 if you want to be in the post season.

Heres to the Pens going 0-82!

Though this isn't necessarily true anymore with the whole 3 teams from each division automatically getting in.

I guess it's statistically possible for the 3rd place team in a division to finish 9th in the conference, but I suspect it would be pretty unlikely.
