NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Guessing even less people will watch the ASG if he's out than would've otherwise. If Scott and Rob Scuderi (Pitt fans tried to get him in) were playing in a 3 on 3 tournament with other all stars I might tune in for a bit.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

He played at MTU. Do you need further explanation on how it was decided or the relatively small number of voters who used their 12 computers each to flood the voting system?

I don't disagree with some "senanicans" likely being involved, but the movement to elect him was much bigger than the MTU fanbase. ;)

They enlisted their cousins' computers, too? (And by "enlist," I mean hacked.)

I'm pretty sure Puck Daddy founder Greg Wyshynski (a big advocate for Scott's ASG appearance as a gag) couldn't find Houghton on a Michigan highway map. Nor does he really give two sh**s about college hockey or college alumni.

He straight up promoted John Scott as "Let's nominate the clown to this farce of a game!"

I'll legit say I contributed a vote to the cause only because the dude's earned my respect. A big lumbering oaf who attempted vehicular manslaughter in college; but nine seasons in the NHL, a Mechanical Engineering degree, and a whole bunch of stories about how great he really is after he got college out of his system softened my attitude towards him. He's the kinda guy I'd want to watch at an All-Star game.

I'd have to imagine they'd be open to lawsuits if they denied a ticket to someone who has it legally.
I'd think so, I'd hope so.

Over the course of history, some cities have banned secondary ticket sales anywhere within their boundaries. Some of those have even banned such sales across the board -- above or below face value. But outside the particular cities involved, secondary sales would be fully legal, to the best of my knowledge. From there, I would think valid tickets would have to be honored.

I can understand that it's annoying to home fans - heck, my last game at the Old Stadium was against the Wings (in their final regular season appearance there) and it was probably 40% Wings fans.

You just gotta live with it.

Preds management looks bad and plenty of Hawks fans will still get in. I'm sure many view it as a challenge now.
Game on; 1-0 Hawks after the first. Hawks score with 22 seconds left in the period. A good, satisfying roar from Blackhawks fans after the goal. Also, a decent number of red jerseys down close to the ice are visible on my TV screen. Good result in all respects so far.

WGN radio broadcast also confirms lots of Hawks fans present.

For anyone interested, the telecast is on NBC Sports Network.

EDIT: Now 2-0 Hawks.:)
EDIT: OK, now 2-1. Gotta get back to my TV.

As a side, I do enjoy hearing the roars during road games though and there are many places where it seems as though there are more Hawks fans than the home team. Anaheim... LA... Phoenix... Florida... St. Louis... Denver...
Couldn't agree more!

Lots of empty seats visible on TV.

At least they kept out a few Hawks fans though. Too bad their own fans didn't bother to show up.

Judging by the roars, plenty of Hawks fans made it in.

:D

Hope no one was discouraged by the nonsense coming from Preds' management, but I suppose a few probably were.

Hear, Hear.

On the ice, the Preds came at us hard in the 3rd Period. Selfishly I'm glad their big push fell short. But that's a good team, always a tough out. Seems obvious to me that Nashville's management should simply market their own team and stop worrying about visiting fans. They've got a good product.

And there was plenty to celebrate! Top of the list is the franchise record 12th straight win.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

12 wins in the season isn't quite as glamorous as 16 wins to end a season, but anytime you're setting a franchise record, it's worthwhile.... And on the 25th anniversary of "The Anthem" to boot....

They probably sensed the inevitable and didn't want to be stuck sitting next to a Hawks fan. :D

Brian McGratten was involved in a fight in the AHL playing for the SD Gulls. Very scary ending to the fight, really hope he's alright. The team reported he is conscious, and has full movement.

It also makes me absolutely sick that a large number of San Antonio fans were cheering and laughing afterwards.

And as a Gopher Hockey fan, you've undoubtedly seen it play out countless times. Arrogance, even when fully warranted, is obnoxious to opposing fans.:p

Different brand of arrogance, to be sure. But not a big difference to the fan on the receiving end.;)

But more to the point, few Preds fans would have been bothered by management's threatened restrictions. I'm referring to the threat that admission might be limited to those with Tennessee IDs, plus IDs from a few neighboring states. The approved geographic area appeared to be the Predators' home TV market. Because Nashville is still relatively new to the NHL, I doubt that they have any meaningful number of fans outside that market. And even for those few, the chance that they'd be available to attend a regular season game on a Tuesday night is slight.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Hell... I'm a Hawks fan and I don't want to sit next to many (most?) of them.

Been gone too long from Chicago...

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Very nice gesture by the Habs last night. The Bruins and Canadiens wore the Winter Classic jerseys last night. The jerseys were going to be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the Denna Laing fund. Before the game they did a very nice presentation. Other than she's "hockey family" and the incident took place during the Winter Classic, their connection to her wasn't direct, so this was well above and beyond what might be expected. Canadiens are getting like the Yankees to me. The players I used to hate (except ARod) are gone, the organizations themselves are class, and it's hard to dislike them.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

It appears as though the Wild waited a month to enter the hot garbage portion of the season.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

This losing streak is starting to wear on me...
