NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Massena, eh? The ice rink is where I learned about the 50 minute hour for ice rental.

Seriously? I've never seen anything like that. Out here, you purchase 60 minutes and that's what you skate. There's then a 15-minute buffer between ice times. Yes, it's figured into the cost of those 60-minute blocs, at least you're on the ice for a full minute.

Not around here. We buy the zam cut at all but 1 rink. If I buy 90 minutes, I'm on the ice for 80.

Our 18U teams are trying to play 3x17 minute periods in 80 minutes with no cut. They rarely make it.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

It's been a few years since I've rented ice. But IIRC, 60 minutes rented meant 60 minutes skated in this market.

An exception
: If you booked the ice for a longer period of time -- say two hours -- and wanted the ice redone in the middle of your timeslot, the resurfacing was done on your dime. Or not. If you wanted to skate on the same ice for two hours, more power to you.

That exception never struck me as unreasonable. You were simply trading 10 minutes of your time for better ice during the second hour. But being asked to pay for the next customer's ice seems like an overreach to me.

Kane officially not going to be on the EA NHL 16 cover. New cover only features Toews.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

The New Joronto Maple Imps? :D

I do have to laugh - Babs leaves Detroit in part because he's tired of fighting with Holland over the roster. If he thought Kenny was bad, wait until he has to deal with Lou.

Does this mean they're going to add Robbie Earle to the roster for a game?

First the soccer unis and now this. Time to break out the torches and pitchforks!

The National Hockey League appears poised for radical changes to its team jerseys in the wake of a deal that may pave the way for advertising on team uniforms.

Adidas has won a long-term deal to make uniforms for the 30 NHL teams, beginning in the 2017-18 season.

A source told TSN that the deal would surely mean big changes to uniform designs, perhaps with Adidas’s familiar three-stripe trademark being added to some or all team jerseys.

“The NHL might not want big changes like that, but for the money Adidas will pay, they’ll be pretty aggressive pushing to make the NHL jerseys identifiable with their brand,” the source said.

It's been rumored for three years, surprised they're announcing it now and not waiting a bit. Adidas owns Reebok, and Reebok owns the Hockey Company (CCM). Adidas wants to return Reebok to their roots as a running/jogging apparel brand, so a lot of hockey related Reebok items have been transitioning to CCM.

At least the *rest* of hockey gets the right name on their Reebok jerseys now. It's so nice to see the CCM on the AHL, OHL, and other leagues jerseys.

And the B1G schools already have Adidas hockey jerseys.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

I don't remember the last Adidas jersey I liked. All of their good college football ones are just the traditional one the programs have always had. Their alternates they make to try to match Nike's pro combat are awful, and the college basketball ones they roll out for the tournament are some of the worst jerseys I've ever seen.

I'm not sure how much of a difference it will make since it's technically Adidas right now, but I can only think of the horrible alternates they could think of for a team like the Preds with that mustard yellow.

Every time I see a new Adidas jersey come out I become more and more thankful MSU has Nike.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Adidas has had the MLS Uniforms for a while now and I think they do a good job. Adidas' track record with uniforms is far better than Nike.
