Haha.

You'll get sucked in... without question.

You were calling for the Wild to sweep the Hawks before the series.

:)

I think I said 6 not sweep. But, semantics. I'll be assuming the Hawks will win the Cup next year. Bank on it.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Gonna be in Chicago today. Gotta get my third championship hat, a pint glass, maybe a shirt...
Awesome! Are you going to one of the Official Blackhawks Stores? IIRC the main one is on the Magnificent Mile...

Also, you may want to set aside a few bucks in case a One Goal III is published. At least on Amazon, One Goal II has been like a well-performing stock. Used copies are now selling for twice the original value.

Yeah, well, at least the Wild won't suck me in again.
You weren't the only one. It seemed like the entire Wild fanbase drank the kool aid this spring. It certainly got my attention; causing me to wonder what I was missing.

It needs to be said that the sweep was misleading; the teams are closer than that. But in general, the Wild's end result accurately reflects where they currently are: A good team on the rise. Definitely playoff worthy, but not quite ready for a serious run at the Finals this year. The second half charge to the playoffs, along with the first round knockout of the Blues, should be filed away as a very solid season. And yet the sense I get from MN is that everyone is disappointed that their team "underachieved."

I dunno; maybe the Twin Cities media was uncharacteristically optimistic, thus drawing everyone in?

That's the best policy for fans of any team, Blackhawks included.

Uh, you do realize that they were pretty much the best team in the NHL recordwise the second half? The hole they had built before Dubnyk was massive and it took the entire second half of winning to get out of it. Everyone (myself included) figured the train wouldn't stop in the playoffs. It did. Fairly easily for the Hawks as well.

Next year Dubnyk (if they sign him) probably regresses to the mean. They they got to hope the younger players are still getting better instead of plateaued. If their plateaued the Wild will be a first or second round playoff team for a few more years and then fall off the map again cause the pipeline they had is all pretty much in St. Paul already. Iowa doesn't have much else to send.

There are definitely situations in which I'd be tempted to not use a goalie, at least as a "catch them off-balance" move....
-- Maybe take possession in your own end and have the goalie skate up ice alongside the player in possession of the puck on the way to the bench?
-- Have someone who wins an insane percentage of face-offs on your team? If you are the home team with the last substitution, pull the goalie right before the face-off in the opponents' end?

Except, and somebody correct me if I'm wrong, I'd expect they keep the rule in place where if you are scored upon in OT with the goalie pulled, you get zero points. Isn't that how that rule goes? I know we discussed it towards the end of the regular season, but can't recall exact phrasing.

Yeah, even if you have a guy who wins 60% of his draws (that's about as extreme as you'd ever get) that's a substantial risk.

Fully aware. The Wild had been playing at a playoff pace for essentially the whole second half.

Everyone (myself included) figured the train wouldn't stop in the playoffs. It did. Fairly easily for the Hawks as well.

I judged the team's body of the work for the full season, and basically assumed that Dubnyk would regress to the mean at some point in the playoffs. It's tough enough to bring the A+ Game for two straight months in the actual playoffs. Five straight months? Yikes. Viewed from that perspective, the second round result wasn't a surprise.

They they got to hope the younger players are still getting better instead of plateaued. I do expect the Wild's younger players to get better. As for the Iowa team, I admit I've got no info on them.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Welp. Looks like a new team in Las Vegas, the Coyotes move to either Seattle or Quebec, and the city that doesn't get the Coyotes gets a new team as well.

Now, then. Where do we move the Las Vegas team after it fails in 10 years?

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Which cities will be vying for an expansion team? Las Vegas, Seattle, Quebec, Toronto, Kansas City? Are there any others that would want a team, and have the ability/resources to go for it?

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

I don't think Toronto is getting a second team, either. The Maple Leafs ownership would raise holy hell about territorial rights. I don't know about Kansas City.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Well, I guess they can even out the conferences I guess :p

The dumbest thing of all were the initial rumors last year that said the NHL was looking at four new teams, which would just go and make the conferences and/or divisions uneven again! But, that sounds just like Bettman.

If four happens: Vegas, KC, Quebec, and Seattle. Chicago moves back to the East so the Original Six are in one conference.

Re: NHL 2015, Part 3: Stanley Cup and Offseason

Is Hamilton "far enough" from Toronto and Buffalo?

That part, I don't know. Broadcast rights, and the fees that go with them, are rapidly becoming more and more important than even 5 years ago.

Carey Price wins the Ted Lindsay
Patrice Bergeron wins the Selke
Erik Karlsson wins the Norris
