Re: NHL 2015-16: John Scott for MVP!

Changing the subject, watching tonight from the Bolts watch party between Amalie and Channelside plaza. Pretty fantastic event, the better part of a large parking lot is packed with fans and food trucks/beer trucks. Beautiful night to watch outside here too.
Very cool. I can definitely envision that, having been there last month for the FF.

...I also won't be shocked to see Callahan get 1-2 games, and maybe Palat get a game for their checks from behind.
I was lending a cheer to the Bolts, but I have say that Palat deserved a major. Don't care that there were only five minutes left in regulation time. The initial contact was borderline. But the extra shove was made for sole purpose of sending the Pens player head first into the boards. It's hard to imagine a case where the intent is clearer.

Granted, Palat didn't pile drive him into the boards with all of his might. So I suppose his defense would be that he was only trying to sprain the opponent's neck, not break it.

Intent to injure infractions need to be called, regardless of the scoreboard. The absence of the most extreme level of force probably justifies keeping any suspension short. But it doesn't change the basic nature of this infraction.

I didn't see the whole game, and apparently missed the Callahan hit. You're saying the Callahan hit was worse? Yikes.

Nashville players were flying all over the place with reckless abandon in the third last night. Numerous charges and boardings that were pretty dangerous. Nothing. Eventually they called a cross checking penalty, which seemed ridiculous after what they had let go.

They just don't care in the playoffs. "Your reward for making it this far? A career ending injury."

It isn't just the NHL. I find myself shocked at what is let go during the Minnesota State High School tournament as well.

That makes it sound like they care in the regular season.

Hopefully Letang/Dumo are ok for game 2, same goes for Johnson who seemed to be fine. I doubt Bishop is coming back, that's either ACL or best case MCL and either way he'll be out for the series I would think.

At the college level, getting rid of hits from behind has been a point of emphasis year after year. Some progress has been made. So maybe as college hockey fans, we're more focused on this issue than other hockey people.

But I say we're in the right. Running a real risk of spinal injuries just isn't worth it. Even for the Cup.

Surprisingly, no hearing for Callahan.

Letang did put himself in a vulnerable position, knowing Callahan was coming, but the responsibility is still on the attacking player. He's gotta go to the bear hug and ride him into the boards as opposed to driving him from the shoulder/back of head into the boards.

I would just like to comment to NBC that you are more than welcome to keep showing shots of DeBoer. :D

Re: NHL 2015-16: John Scott for MVP!

With the Canadian win over France, the US just needs to take Slovakia to OT tomorrow to make the playoffs.

Re: NHL 2015-16: John Scott for MVP!

US pulled it off, will move onto the quarterfinals against Czechia after a 3-2 loss in OT. Slovakia had the saddest OT celebration.

Re: NHL 2015-16: John Scott for MVP!

Vladimir Tarasenko's wife has given birth to a son, Aleksandr. The Sharks will now have the privilege of trying to stop New Dad Strength Tarasenko tonight.

Re: NHL 2015-16: John Scott for MVP!

Where's Czechia? Between Czech Republic and Chechnya? ;)

I kid. Nice to see we won't be relegated.

Re: NHL 2015-16: John Scott for MVP!

I like it. Easier to say and anyone who is in their upper 20s and older has already gone through the original breakup so this is nothing new.

Re: NHL 2015-16: John Scott for MVP!

Dad strength is apparently on delay. Hopefully it arrives with the Blues in San Jose.
