Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Heads up to people looking for Detroit and Nashville. Game is going to be on CNBC tomorrow. Are they practicing for Sochi already? :D

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

I think it's great we're getting full coverage on all NBC stations this year!:)

Agreed... Usually in the 1st round, there were several games that only got regional coverage.... The only time you would see them is a "Live look-in" during the intermission of another game or during the post game show... I'm looking forward to this :o

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Well EDM gets the number 1 pick for the third year in a row. This truly is my lowest point as a CBJ fan

I bought the late subscription of centre ice each year to solve this problem. Saves me money and I get to watch the continued expansion of hockey coverage on a better network than ESPN. Win. :p

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

When a game goes to OT, all of us pick a player from each team who will score the winner. I'm goin to put together a spreadsheet to keep track of it, and tally the poster with the most correct players picked!

When a game goes to OT you pick a goal scorer for both teams. If you name the correct scorer you win. But you have to submit your names before the puck is dropped for the overtime session.

Thanks! Sounds like fun. I'll do my best to play...but I'm currently in Europe meaning games tend to start around 2am. So we'll see.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

It's hard not to want to root for Nashville.

They're doing a promotion aimed at "PredWing" fans (Nashville fans except when they play Detroit, transplants because of the auto industry, that sort of thing) where you can trade in a used Red Wing jersey for a 50% off new Preds jersey. They're then donating the Wings jerseys they get to Detroit charities.

Edit: They're calling it "Operation Visine" Hahahaha.

Im rooting for Nashville because I have never liked the Wings, and because I saw this quote from a friend on facebook: "Only those from Michigan truly understand what this time of year means," and then a link to the Wings Because its the Cup commerical. Really? Only peope from Michigan understand what this time of the year means? Id argue there are people from other states and an entire country that understand it probably more than people from Michigan...even if the teams in that country don't always make the playoffs.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

First round picks I'll take: Vancouver, Saint Louis, Chicago, Detroit, NYRangers, Boston, New Jersey and Pittsburgh.

That sounds awfully similar to what the ****ing match between Dubber and the rest of USCHO is about on the D1 board.

Yeah, coz only Red Wing fans are really into their team.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Love, love, LOVE the first round. There's like 600 games per night!

Even CNBC has games!

Go Hawks! And anyone playing against the Canucks. :p

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Based on Bradley-Terry rankings (i.e., KRACH) found here, the most likely outcomes are:

West: VAN in 6 (20.7%), STL in 5 (23.4%), CHI in 6 (16.6%), NSH in 6 (17.7%)
East: NYR in 5 (24.3%), BOS in 6 (18.2%), NJD in 6 (18.5%), PHI in 6 (16.1%)

Overall winning probabilities:
West
VAN 70.9% - LAK 29.1%
STL 76.9% - SJS 23.0%
CHI 53.3% - PHX 46.7%
NSH 57.6% - DET 42.4%

East
NYR 78.5% - OTT 21.5%
BOS 59.5% - WAS 40.5%
NJD 60.8% - FLA 39.2%
PHI 51.5% - PIT 48.5%

All that being said, statistics kind of fly out the window when the playoffs start, and they just did!
