NHL 2012: Playoffs! Pick Your Overtime Winners!

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Pick Your Overtime Winners!

...but Shaw is not the guy that would have taken care of Torres. The Hawks, who are being built in the Euro-soft image of the Wings, don't have that guy...
I didn't say that Shaw would have taken care of Torres. I said he was the primary sh*t stirrer. Had Shaw not been suspended, he would have been a pest to try and draw the Yotes into starting something. I watched him twice start sh*t with Wolves players then act innocent when the linesmen come in.

As soon as the linesmen were protecting Shaw both times, both times he tried to take swings at the opposing player and wound up connecting with the linesman instead. One game he punched the linesman so hard, he got called up to the Blackhawks the next day. :p

There are a bunch of *holes on the Blackhawks roster who could step up in future games:
Bickell, Bolland, Bollig (who did and got the gate), Morin, Mayers or Shaw (suspended)

I'm pretty sure Shaw would be able to hold his own.

Your description of Shaw makes it sound like he might have been a Gopher at one time. :D:p

As to your other point about a-holes on the Hawks roster, it's too late for that. Torres is gone for the series. The response needed to happen last night, and the Hawks don't have that guy, or at least didn't have him dressed. Gotta win on Thursday, so the time for a pound of flesh is past.

Bollig should have pounded Torres immediately, regardless of the turtling. I mean, he's not on the Hawks roster to score 50 goals. He was brought in to replace John Scott.

As far as the other guys go, none of them stepped up last night, and knowing them like I do, that doesn't surprise me in the least. Bolland is a pest, not a goon. Bickell is an empty jersey. Morin was still in Rockford. Mayers gets about a minute and a half per game.

Trust me. I know the Hawks and they are soft. They are not the Hawks of my formative years. We don't have Manson, Grimson, Gary Nyland, Secord, Behn Wilson, Steve Smith etc, etc etc. Those guys were solid to really good players who were also tough as nails and could/would beat your a-s-s if need be. Gone are the days...

Okay, I won't hijack this thread with Hawk talk anymore. :)

Am I the only one that thinks the Hawks should have been beating the snot out of Torres the rest of that game last night? I know that is what the Bruins would have done. Me thinks the Hawks lack the toughness to move on to the second round.
Well, if that's what those paragons of class and fair play would have done, then clearly it's what everyone should do.

Gurtholfin is my new favorite poster. Well done sir.

That Crosby picture is absolutely priceless. The poor quality of the photo-shopping actually makes it more awesome.

They won the cup, they don't play like the canucks/habs. As far as I'm concerned they're a model team.

I respect how they won the Cup too. I like gritty hockey as long as it's not pervasively cheap.

Can't stand the Canucks and their theatrics.

I actually like the way the Coyotes are playing sans Torres. They're doing exactly what they need to in order to advance against a more talented, but soft team.

This. I love the way The Bruins play the game.

I know I am biased because they are my team, but I love the way the Rangers play. They don't win pretty. They just win. Great D, solid goaltending and coaching. Plus, timely scoring.

I agree. And I love their coach. He's highly entertaining. Their only strikes are the two Beagles and the whole New York thing. :)

Nothing against CJ, he'll be the Bruins coach until he retires probably, but I'd love Torts to be the HC in Boston. It's a match made in heaven.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Pick Your Overtime Winners!

Looks like Raffi Torres is a shoo-in winner for the Lady Byng Trophy this season.

As crazy as this sounds (and I can't believe I'm actually saying it), I'd give serious consideration to giving that trophy to Matt Cooke this year. I'm sure he only changed because someone told him the next suspension he'd get would be of the season length variety, but he had a grand total of 44 penalty minutes this year, all 2 minute minors and while the Pens have been looking like asses in this series, he has zero of their penalty minutes.

Sooooo.... Both Fleury and Bryz have their A game tonight

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Pick Your Overtime Winners!

Remember how with the old NES hockey game, if you were still tied after overtime and a shootout there would be another period where they just had no goalies. I've always wondered what that would be like in real life and this series has let me know.

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Pick Your Overtime Winners!

Didn't think the goaltending could get any worse in the Pennsylvania series. Boy was I wrong...
