NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

Re: NHL 2012: Playoffs! Part II: Boogalooing all the way to the Cup

As it stands right now, the Bruins have a full roster and $277,857 to spend until they hit the cap. So of course NESN is doing a full hour of programming at 2PM to highlight any moves the Bruins make... I suppose it's better than another hour of fishing...

What happened to the Bruins being players for Parise and a possible trade for Kane?

Or was all that pending unloading Thomas and some others?

They've still got Savard's contract ($4M+) which they can dump at any time (but have chosen not to) and they can unload TT30's $5M to Phoenix to help them get to the salary floor. They also chose to give the 3rd and 4th liners generous contracts instead of playing hardball. Hopefully going with depth will prove a winning move vs making a play at Parise or other free agents. It could backfire and all the muckers could get satisfied with their massive paydays and stop doing the little things the team needs to win another Cup.

There's also the salary structure on the team. Chara is the highest paid player ($7M) and some top line players resigned with the team rather than testing the free agent waters because they bought into the whole team concept. Bringing in a high-priced free agent shatters that all to hell and the B's go from having an outstanding locker room to having a bunch of disgruntled players. There was a lot of chatter about Parise, but Chiarelli chose to go in a different direction.

I get that. About 800 post in each Tiger thread come from me doing exactly that. The last decent backup we've had was Conklin a few years ago. The second time around, uh-uh.

I also think we overpaid by about half a million, but I guess that is the reality of these huge salary cap increases every season.

Looking at what the Rangers are doing already, I think Sather has finally snapped. Can't we get him a trip to Bellvue?

Beat up old Samuelsson (I'm guessing he's taking Holmstrom's roster spot), and a guy who will singlehandedly double the team's PIM and alcohol consumption. Brilliant.

EDIT: The thought now appears to be that Holland may be stocking up on forwards before making a trade. Flippula or Franzen possibly on the move tomorrow?

If it has to be one of them, I hope it's Franzen. He scores more than Flip but believe Filppula to be more valuable overall.

4.6 million per year for 6 years for Jason Garrison?
Does that scream massive overpayment to anyone else?

Looks like Marty is staying in Newark

I saw a study that did an economic analysis of NHL teams. IIRC, the most successful teams put their $$ in puck moving defensemen first.

Unsubstantiated Twitter rumor is that as of 8 AM this morning, Parise's order was: Wild, Pens, Devils, Wings, Flyers.

Bobby Ryan is being shopped to Buffalo; the Ducks are said to be looking for a second-line center in return, and I doubt Anaheim would trade him to us.

Looks like Holland is preparing for Plan C - pull out those compromising photos of Howson and get him to lower the price on Nash. ;)
