NFL 25-26: Blame The Refs for this Thread Title

I though you were ambivalent.
I was. But I was expecting a little more offense from them and then a crushing turnover or an ill-timed penalty or something. Seattle was the better team. No shame in that. It was an interesting and unexpected season, one where I wasn’t expecting more than seven or eight wins. So, making it to the Super Bowl after only winning four games last season? I’ll take that. My disgust at Kraft’s blatant association with Trump notwithstanding, this was a likable team. I will continue to not watch to endure their success!

As a Lions fan, there's a good amount of bitterness that you got there the 12th time after going down hill before we've gotten there the first time.... rrrrr

I get that. I really do. That said, seeing so many things online about how this team didn't "deserve" it, I mean, come on. Softest schedule? Sure. But they won. The year before was also a soft schedule and they only won four games. This year, they won consistently, and their three playoff games were against some of the toughest defenses in the league. So, yeah, I think they did deserve to be there. Deserve to win? No. Seattle didn't "deserve" to win - at least not pronouncing they did before the game. After the game? Absolutely. Without question. They proved from the get go they were the better team,

And you cannot tell me if the situation was reversed and the Lions had been to as many Super Bowls as the Patriots that your fanbase wouldn't be just as obnoxious. That's what annoys me. I was totally and completely rooting for the Lions last year. I specifically did not watch them so my jinx would not work on them either.

Well poop. Oline was abysmal and Maye never really had a chance (nor did he step up when he had those very few opportunities).

Loved the halftime performance, even if I find the music itself pretty awful.

Oh, it's not about deserve or anything like that. We had our chance with a soft schedule, and were ahead of the 49ers to almost make it. And I think we would have played better than SF against KC that year.

It's just frustrating that the most dominant franchise of all time (you've freaking been there 20% all time, after skipping almost half of them at the start) and we are one of the last franchises who hasn't even been there. And I don't know if we even have a chance to get there soon.

Not sure where to put this nugget of info, as people have been very supportive of Puerto Rico on this board in other threads- but the halftime show is where you may have seen this:

Did you notice the lighter color blue in the Puerto Rican flag? The light color was all over the place- the band's shirts, Lady Gaga's dress....

But that light blue was the color of the flag before the US made them change it to match the blue in the US flag in 1948. Which was 50 years after the US colonized them and had been abusing them since. So showing that color of flag over the dark blue one was political.

That's really cool. I didn't get a chance last night but tonight I'm hoping to spend some time reading about all the little details like that.

Good.

We treat them like shit. They should be a state at this point.

I had some more nuggets, but in honor of letting people learn for themselves about what it meant- I'm going to let you find out.

That isn't at all against anyone on this board- it's to honor your curiosity to learn about your fellow Americans in this hemisphere. (which was actually pointed out many years ago by Ruben Blades that we are all Americans in North America and South America)

Ok- one thing- I've seen many reactions from fellow Americans when their American country was called out at the end. Lots of cheers and tears of joy.

Local NBC Bay Area news after the game interviewed a lot of people who bought Super Bowl tickets just to stay for the halftime show and then leave afterwards which is kinda crazy.

I like the meme saying Bad Bunny had more rushing yards during the halftime show than the Patriots did all game.

I love that the whole ring / wedding callback sequence was real.

That was the greatest HT show of all time. I can't believe what a work of art it was, and how complicated and beautiful. It reminded me of the "night on the streets" sequence in 42nd Street. And the political protest portion of it was perfect. The only thing stronger than hate is love.

We can get through this if we remember we are not a "nation" or a "people." Those are granfaloons. We are human beings. All of equal value. All of intrinsic inalienable worth. We are I and Thou, not I and It. That is the way to fight fascism, and indeed any ism or demagogue.

Kant gave the algorithm more than 200 years ago:

1. I value ends that I set for myself, and I take myself to have reason to pursue them.

2. But I recognize that the worth of those ends is only conditional. If I did not set them as my ends, I would have no reason to pursue them.

3. Therefore I have a worth-bestowing status.

4. Therefore, I have an unconditional value (an "end in myself") -- my capacity to bestow worth on my ends.

5. I must similarly accord another rational being the same unconditional value I accord myself.

6. Therefore, we should all act in a manner that respects this unconditional value. Human beings should always be an end, and never merely a means.

QED, motherfuckers.
