NFL 2022-23: How About A Lions vs. Jaguars Super Bowl?

Thanks to an extra week of practice, Mayfield tried to be the winner as opposed to a proper cog. As I saw it, he's trying to push the ball down field way too much as opposed to checking the ball down to get 3-5 on the pass + the post pass. And that resulted in 1) he's not quite accurate enough to consistently do that, and 2) the rams protection isn't good enough - meaning they didn't get much offense. It's the opposite "fault" that Goff had, where he was labeled a dink and dunk QB with 2-3 yard passes.

It's too bad, as the Rams D kept them in the game.

Pro bowl players announced. Not to exciting really but I learned an interesting stat:

Cowboys lineman Zach Martin (Notre Dame) has made more pro bowls (8) than he has had holding penalties (6) called against him in his entire career.

YouTubeTV buys the rights to Sunday Ticket going forward

I mean, that's a lot of guaranteed subscriptions from Bars/Resturants and those subs aren't cheap. There is money to be made I'm sure.

But it does make me wonder what a mom/pop place has to shell out to have a full sports package nowadays with everything getting spread out.

Sounds like the NFL was pretty adamant that Sunday Ticket cost $300+ for the subscription and that’s why Apple walked.

I find that greatly ironic that Apple walked because something was going to be too expensive for the customer...

Like RB said, I do wonder how much it cost public establishments (bars) to buy these type of packages.

Shows you how much of a Richard the NFL can be. A non-negotiable subscription rate and zero input on production, all for the price of $2.5 billion.

But, I guess you can do that if you’ve got the ratings the NFL gets.

From an article dated 10/19/21.

According to DIRECTV’sweb site, a bar/restaurant with a Fire Code Occupancy (FCO) of 101-200 must pay $6,000 a season for the Ticket. Owners of establishments with a FCO of 201-350 must pay $8,500; those with 351-500 must pay $12,350 while those with places that can serve 501-750 people must pay $13,700.

The rate goes even higher: If you have a bar/restaurant that can serve 751-1000 people, you would have to pay $19,000 for the Sunday Ticket; $28,125 for a place with a FCO of 1,001-1500; and $37,500 for an establishment with a FCO of 1,501 to 2,000.

Finally, if you have a mega place that can serve between 2,001 and 5,000 people, you’ll need to fork over $78,000!

Given there are literally 1000's of establishments nationwide paying those rates, you can see how much money is in play here. I'm also willing to bet that Google doesn't care about the money paid for subs, but are more interested in bringing entirely new users onto their platform. I'm sure they know the conversion rates on this and it's in their favor. They've run the numbers and they believe they will make bank on this. And despite many of us waiting for the sports bubble to burst, the industry just keeps on trucking along...

Wow.

But as long as I get a free OTA local game, I'm fine with bars over paying for games that most people are not going to watch.

And how much longer is that gonna be an option?

Well, I'm sure I'll not be the only one who stops watching. I'm not going to pay for it- the commercials are bad enough to deal with.

With the trends for ESPN over the last few years, how much has college football and the NBA suffered? (I'm ignoring the NHL, as they moved to cable many years ago)

The moment the NFL stops broadcasting the majority of their games on OTA television is the day the NFL stops being the major league in America.
