NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

Peyton > Brady. Brady had the better support cast...

Brady had a few high-end pieces at the skill positions but nothing that would consistently match Addai, Wayne, Harrison, Rhodes, Garcon, James...

While Brady did have the benefit of better defenses on average Manning's teams shat the bed with solid defenses a few times too:

2009 - Lost SB 8th rated D
2008 - Lost WC 7th rated D
2007 - Lost Div 1st rated D
2005 - Lost Div 2nd rated D
2002 - Lost WC 7th rated D

Give him credit for the 1 SB win with a very suspect D but Manning threw too many picks in his playoff career.

Lets not forget that the Indy defense was designed to play with a lead, their ends were great when the other team had to throw...playoff hockey usually isn't that...

They should have always been playing with a lead with those offensive weapons and Brent's GOAT at QB. :)

The quality of coaching and offensive innovation between Peyton’s mostly awful coaches (Caldwell and Fox, Dungy and the other Broncos coach weren’t offensive masterminds by any means either) and possibly the greatest offensive coach of all time was a pretty significant difference. Brady has to and does make hard throws and might still be the GOAT without Bellicheck but that’s such a huge part of it that you can’t just separate the two all that easily.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

Not disputing any of that - but like Montana, Brady more often than not made the throws when needed most and if I had to pick someone to QB my team I'd take even Joe over Peyton.

Fox took two different teams to the Super Bowl, including the Panthers. He is anything but an awful coach. Kubiak won a Super Bowl in what may have been the finest coaching job in recent history when Peyton was pathetic.

And who are you referring to as the "greatest offensive coach of all time?" Belichick is a defensive coach.

Peyton is probably the greatest regular season QB in recent history. However, he was nothing more than mediocre in the postseason when the pressure (and quality of opponent) ratchets up. That combination does not = GOAT. 6 Super Bowls + 9 Super Bowl appearances + 3 MVPs does, and it is really not even close.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

Saying Brady is GOAT does not mean those other guys weren't great: they were. But Brady owns it.

And I switch Brady/Peyton in that sentence. Brady is top 5. No doubt. I will never slight his talent/skill. I just think Peyton's individual skill > Brady's.

Sure, but you'd be wrong, and I'd still be right. :D
