These jock straps are literally the dumbest people on the planet. They just can’t wrap their simple minds around the fact that sports is dead for the foreseeable future thanks to President Dip****.

God they’re desperate, and that’s a really stinky cologne. They are finally finding out just how important they really are in the world and it’s destroying them.

There is a shelf life for professional athletes, and it isn't that long. If I was young, in many cases came from a poor background, and if someone was paying me millions to play a game but nothing to sit at home, I'd probably be looking to get back at it too.

This.

I'm down with the fact that athletes are likely the stupidest people other than Republicans to appear regularly on television - a field which includes celebutards. But in not wanting to lose a year their calculus is different from Joey Office Drone. Think of the extreme case: an Olympic athlete weighing whether to honor a boycott. She only gets so many chances. Well, the average NFL player is looking at a 2 or 3 year career, so he's facing a loss of 33-50% of his lifetime earnings. That's a big f-cking deal even before we factor that he probably comes from one of our cheerful apartheid ghettos.

Hey, Hovey! Ya got one right, man! ;)

I’m not talking about the athletes. I’m talking about the people who cover them.

Jock straps. ;)

Combined revenue for all NFL teams in 2019: $14.5B.

Even if that were all combined as one corporation, they would only be the 226th largest company in the US, behind such behemoths as the Genuine Parts Company, Illinois Tool Works, WestRock Consumer Packaging, AECOM Construction, and 100 other companies you've never heard of.

When it comes to actual importance to the economy, the NFL is a smudge stain on a decimal point.

You're in the biz and you've never heard of AECOM? They're a body shop like L3, Leidos, Bechtel. My own program uses them for security. They're a very good source of personnel when you're not sure they'll all be coming home.

Fun fact: in the SF cityscape segments of WW S3 there was AECOM signage prominently displayed, which I assume they paid for as product placement.

If Rovell had come at it with the angle that the players have a limited career window, then I don’t think his take would be out of line. But he framed it in the manner that they’d be willing to sign over their rights of recourse to a pandemic causing virus because they play with CTE risks so they clearly don’t care about themselves or their well-being.

Those are two different arguments.

Re: NFL 2019-20: The Patriots Are A Terrible 11-3 Team!

I'm guessing he meant most people. I assume he knew about them...since, you know, he mentioned them. :p

I assume he was just copy-pasting a list of companies plus or minus the NFL net worth. I'm guessing neither he nor anybody else more than 2 miles from lovely Glenville (playing days home of Artis Gilmore) has any cognizance of Illinois Tool Works (the company that probably designed the fastener on your gas cap).

In fact after a 5 minute google search I would bet I am one of the 100* most knowledgeable people about that company in the world. :p All of which kinda proves his point.

* Quite possibly, 20. The only reason not fewer is they were nailed with a federal lawsuit so I assume a legal team learned about them along the way.

The only one of those I know is Leidos and that’s only because they’re DC United’s jersey sponsor, I have no idea what they do.

They provide warm bodies with clearances. There are literally hundreds of these companies within a ten mile radius of my house. All they do is steal each others' BD staff is get their Rolodexes so they can bid contracts with hypothetical personnel who match the req. The big guys do it too -- there have been times I have been put simultaneously on 5 or 6 contract pursuits by my employer, and that's what I knew of -- god only knows who they shopped me to.

If they actually win the bid they go out and find somebody to fill the slot -- indeed often by subbing to the small fry body shops. The small companies themselves are typically started by 2 or 3 old hand business guys at a bigger firm who want to live off somebody else's labor for a change.

It's all a vast labor Ponzi scheme, the only protection for the bad actors being that because everybody does it it would be suicide to blow the whistle.

God bless the private sector.

Watching the NFL's Greatest Plays on NBC...not only is the film breakdown awesome, the sideline banter/dialogue is reallllllly fun to hear.

Washington may get a new name in the not so distant future.

Some investor groups of major sponsors are threatening to withdraw.

FedEx, who owns the stadium naming rights, has asked the team to change the name.

Now Nike is not selling any merchandise with the team name.
