NFL 2018.1 The off season

Re: NFL 2018.1 The off season

That demo is tiny. And has almost zero spending power which is what the ad execs care about.

Yet that sub-demo still inflates that 18-49 while male, which is what's used to sell ad time and sponsorship deals.

Re: NFL 2018.1 The off season

Seahawks DE Michael Bennett traded to Eagles

Huh. Alrighty then.

According to ESPN.com, the Eagles will get Bennett and a seventh-round pick in the deal while the Seahawks will walk away with receiver Marcus Johnson and a 2018 fifth-round pick.

Johnson is apparently nothing so this is a pure salary dump.

Next up: Richard Sherman to scare blonde bimbos in another city.

It was fun while it lasted. That dumb pass.

Follow up: explanation from Overthecap via Field Gulls:

Team saves $2.2M this year against the cap and the $3.45M it would cost to cut/trade him after the 2018 season
In other words, if the Seahawks kept Bennett this year, he would count $7,375,000 against the cap and would still have $3,450,000 remaining from his signing against the 2019-2020 caps.

By trading him now (before his $4M roster bonus is due), the team eats the remainder of his $5,175,000 from his signing bonus against the cap this year and then has no 2019 impact.

So this is about saving cap space in 2019. Unless Sherman is structured very differently it looks like a sell-off and amputating competing in 2018 to smooth the rebuild. It sucks but people age and get too expensive so I'm for it.

We are right against the cap even after this so it's not as if we're going to move up in the draft either.

Yeah it was clearly a cap move. If Wilson is still making rookie money this doesn't happen and unsurprisingly he got traded to a team where the franchise QB is in that exact situation.

The other shoe drops.

Thank you, Richard. I don't know what I liked most about you: that you made all the f-ckwits so scared and angry, or that for nearly a decade I absolutely could never remember your name as anything but "Jay Sherman."

McDonough going back to college football from MNF.

Joe Tessitore is taking the MNF job, meaning every game is going to OT.

losing that much talent, they may not win a game this year.
