NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Weird. Alcohol is legal in at least 50 states and yet they still have punishments for it.

Prater was going to be suspended for a year until they negotiated it down to four games.

Sudafed is a legal drug and it's covered in the banned substances list. There are a lot of legal drugs included on the list.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

For drinking alcohol, or for drinking alcohol and then doing something like drive a car while drunk? I'm pretty sure that's against the law.

He is now suspended 4 games for drinking alcohol, because he was in the program due to driving while drunk 3 years ago.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Why is the NFL even testing for this?? Do they think marijuana is a performance enhancing drug? It is legal in 2 NFL cities. Are they going to outlaw alcohol too? That's more addictive than weed.

The NFL's drug policy is 10 times more restrictive than the IOC policy. Want to know how Gordon failed this test?

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-partner="tweetdeck"><p>Gordon took and passed over 70 tests in 2013. Failed this one by 0.01 nanograms per milliliter (a nanogram is a billionth of a gram).</p>— Sam Monson (@PFF_Sam) <a href="https://twitter.com/PFF_Sam/statuses/504681698651832320">August 27, 2014</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Go eat a sesame seed bun then take a urine test. Bet you fail.

ETA: Also, nothing in the CBA says Goodell couldn't have sat Rice for more games.

16 games compared with 2 when it's weed vs. punchung a woman is ridiculous, but separating out the two situations Gordon is an idiot. He was dismissed from Baylor in 2011 for failing a drug test, he was suspended for 2 games with Cleveland in 2013, he got a DUI In May and now another failed drug test.

In fact not only has this Monson guy retracted that Tweet (the test results were much different) but he's now claiming the test level could be from a contact high. Really? How many failed tests does Gordon have to have before he himself never mind his apologists get it?

I think it's a silly rule in the grand scheme of things - and certainly this suspension looks outrageous compared with Rice - but he knows the rules, he already has a history of breaking them and when your livelihood depends upon putting the bong away? Just another situation where if common sense prevailed this wouldn't be a topic for discussion.

I liked weed as much as the next guy, but my company can require a test at any given time and therefore for 10 years I've made sure that won't matter. And I don't make squat compared with an NFL player.

I'm pretty sure you have to kill your wife to get 16.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Ray Caruth got banned from the league for killing his wife (symbolic, seeing as how he's not getting out of prison for a long time). Michael Vick only got two years for running Vick's Doggy Daycare the sporty way he did.

NFL wants kids to learn about fantasy football in math.

I can see the word problems now:

Ruxin and Taco are in a standard Yahoo league. Ruxin, while leaving Aaron Rodgers and his 37 points on the bench, has Andy Dalton throw for 340 yards, 3 TD, and 2 INT. Taco has AJ Green who caught 6 passes for 127 yards and 2 TD. All else being equal what is the lowest yardage Taco's QB, Ryan Tannehill, has to throw with 1 TD and no INT to guarantee Ruxin wins the Sacko?

Answer: Never bench Aaron Rogers.

Can they learn about the NFL's Wheel of Punishment in math class?

"Player A knocks his wife unconscious and is videotaped as he drags her off an elevator. Player B gets tattoos in college. How much longer will Player B be suspended from the game than Player A?"

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

The only thing ridiculous about this specific case is that josh Gordon decided that weed was more important than his career. He's part of a union that negotiated these rules and now they are bound by them. And it's not like this was his first offense either. Too bad, so sad.

If my job told me I couldn't do something that I really enjoyed, I would have two choices. Well three, actually. Stop doing the thing I enjoy, find a new job, or keep doing the thing I enjoy and suffer the consequences when they find out.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

I'd like to just laugh at the Browns for not drafting a WR to cover for Gordon.

Really? You don't think his suspension is disgraceful next to Ray Rice getting two games for knocking out his wife?

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

No.

Ray Rice's lack of games is ridiculous.
Gordon's suspension seems appropriate especially given that it was a collectively bargained and agreed upon punishment.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

People should stop saying Josh Gordon doesn't deserve his suspension just because the league royally *ed up the Ray Rice one as if they are identical. The league was allowed much less discretion with Gordon, as they were with Rice.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Since unions have become less powerful in recent decades, people simply don't understand how CBA's work.
