Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

I have no idea... but I'm gonna assume that hitting a child with a switch (stick) or a belt or your (closed) fist is now illegal in most places.

If true, it doesn't matter if you are for it or not.

Trust me, there are ways to get your point across without using your superior size against a 4 year old.

That requires self control and intelligence though - things that many sorely lack.

While for corporal punishment, I would NEVER EVER EVER used a closed fist. EVER. And never would swat anything but the buttocks. No Five Fingers Across The Face (c) Maddox, etc.

Don't know the laws in MN, but if it is illegal, then I guess I'll have to adjust. I think it is legal, though.

You're doing a fine job of living up to your tagline today. :p

Beating and abusing kids isn't one of those areas.

And right now, lots of people have different points on where that line is crossed. While obviously AP did cross that line, some have said corporal punishment is across the line, and others have said that corporal punishment is not across that line. And there's the rub.

Oh... there have been times in life where I thought I had the answers and knew just how to handle things once they came my way. You see, things were handled a certain way when I grew up and i turned out okay, right? Sorta?

Then those things came my way and I realized that my answers might require further reflection. I grew in those instances.

Never stop growing.

I'll give you (or anyone else) spanking, I guess. Of course one persons spank could be a whole lot different than another's, but whatever. Feel the need to lay hands on a defenseless child because you lack the capacity to reach them through other means? Go for it. Just not a woman, of course.

Use any kind of an instrument and it crosses the line. As has been used before around these parts - I don't need a law to tell me that. I just know it.

As far as AP goes, if he stuffed leaves in the kid's mouth and then whipped him till he bled, that's flat out indefensible and I realize that no one here (so far) is defending him.

Stuffing leaves in a toddler's mouth so he can't scream and then whipping him is on par with what Rice did. Maybe worse.

I have just started hearing this part about the story, and I can't even....I mean....Jesus.

If THAT part is true....then 100% bannination is an option, IMO. A recommended one, at that.

Heck, my shop teacher had a paddle. I never got paddled, but the strokes in class that were screwing around near power tools did.

Paddle my kid now and I'll whip your ***.

My 7th grade (Roman Catholic school) teacher had a ruler. That ruler hit so many knuckles......

Believe it or not, not mine. I was an angel in school......so I could get away with stuff later on. :D

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

A swat to the behind is one thing, using a stick to the point of drawing blood and causing bruises is criminal.

On a selfish level, this org is freaking cursed.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Watching NFL Today on CBS. Why on earth are they having Charles Barkley be a guest commentator on this Adrian Peterson mess?

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

holy crap. Norv Turner just called a brilliant set of plays on that drive.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

I think Jim Rome needs to rethink his statement that the Patriots are one of the best teams in the league. That was pitiful.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

We could have the makings of (another!) QB controversy in Washington. RG3 left game with an ankle injury and Kurt Cousins is running the offense to perfection.

That's the first time in recorded history that the words "Norv Turner" and "brilliant" have appeared in a sentence together.

He had a pretty good run with the Cowboys back in the 90s. He was the OC for their Super Bowls in '92 and '93, credited with much of the success that Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith enjoyed. His time as a head coach hasn't been great, but he's been a good OC.
