I've had to discipline my boys many times over the years. I've never laid a hand on them let alone beat them with a stick. And at 4 years old? Really?

I've always respected AP, but if this turns out to be true, it's child abuse no matter how you look at it - possibly (likely?) criminal.

Doesn't matter one bit if your parents did it to you.

My wife use to get punished with the switch when she was raised by her grandmother. However, she only hit her on the butt. This looks bad if AP did this.

As someone who got an *** whoopin' on a regular basis as a child: spankings don't leave you looking like THAT. JFC.

Yup. Only on the butt. I got the wooden spoon once, only threatened with the switch. The threat was enough.

When I was younger, I got a metal spatula on the backside. However, when I got older, Mom just started taking things away. Her move when I was a teenager: walking up to the video game console, turning it off mid-game (no chance to save progress), and telling my brother and I that one of us was in trouble.

pictures show broken skin. that's too much. on steroids.

personally, I think a lot of the NFLs problems start in high school and college where you can get away with almost anything if you are a good (or great player). the whole culture bleeds down to lesser players. if college and the NFL had a one strike and you are out we'd see a lot less of this. i.e. see Michael Vick.

When it comes to acting right? I'm now curious as to what this poor kid did that wasn't considered "acting right" to warrant getting beat like that. The most disturbing thing I read was how he put leaves in the kids mouth to keep him from screaming. I hear all the "I was spanked growing up and I turned out OK" stuff, but really? At what point do you think muffling a child's cries, your own kid's, is a proper way to discipline a child?

It's abuse - plain and simple.

It'll be interesting to see which morons come out in his defense - both here and amongst his peers.

From what I've been reading on the interwebs:

1. You're either for or against corporal punishment.
2. If you're for it, a switch is acceptable, but AP went too far, no question. Heavy punishment for him.
3. If you're against it, AP should be in jail/banned for life/ZOMG lynch him.

I'm in the #2 slot.

Whooping up on your kid is fine by me. You go so far as to draw blood and are gagging them? That's not discipline anymore. That's abuse. See ya, AD.

Won't matter one bit what you're for. On anyone else on the interwebs for that matter.

The court will decide.


And #3 is a nice leap - especially the last part. :rolleyes:


Funny that two people who are for using a switch (on a 4 year old) aren't parents...

True on the courts. And agreed on #3. The people who are spouting that are morans. (yes, I spelled it that way on purpose)

I think he was referring to posters. And I was a parent in training (my ex-fiancee had 3 kids; I did discipline them, although they never did anything serious enough to warrant a spanking or a switch), and will be a parent come January.
