I'm curious as to where his wife is in all this (they did get married, right?). I'm thinking something may have happened between them and she initiated that tape's release.

I doubt she would have been involved in releasing the video. If she'd had any sense she'd have left him as soon as the whole thing went down, rather I expect she was hooking her wagon to his gravy train and standing by him until to keep herself in the money. Who knows what happens now.

I'm thinking they will. However, they're going to tread very carefully and very quietly. They need to (and I hate saying this) "protect the players" or at least future players from allowing this to be set as a precedent for all types of incidents with the law. Including the punishments for marijuana. They need to make sure that teams and the league can't outright cut someone just because the public wants it.

However, the NFLPA will publicly condemn Rice's actions and say they support the league 100%. They also need to protect the union as a whole and the other members of the union from any backlash caused by a single member committing an indefensible act.


(I hope this doesn't come off as me defending Rice or anything like this in the future...)

Not at all, but like you said there are a bunch of legal issues surrounding this. I think the NFLPA and NFL will be able to work out an agreement that things of a violent nature can receive a limited exception to any rule that is currently in place. Doesn't give the NFL power to do anything they want but sends a strict message against violence.

Didn't the incident happen at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City? On September 2 the Revel Casino closed it's doors, canning all it's employees. That was last Tuesday. It wouldn't surprise me at all if someone in the security department at Revel took a copy of this tape as his or her "severance" pay and cashed the check when they sold it to TMZ.

Reading the comments section on CNN, it's amazing how many people are saying that the woman deserved it for starting the whole thing outside the elevator or that people are railroading Rice because he's black.

i was thinking the same thing... 5000 employees hit the unemployment lines all at once between Revel and another casino. I'd be stunned if someone didn't do exactly what you were saying....

Quite true, but if you get named, it could prevent you from getting new employment (unlikely, but still a consideration). Companies value discretion in that statements and tape should only be released through official channels.

I don't see anyone getting named. TMZ isn't going to disclose their source. The casino has no interest. It's history. There might be a private security company, but my guess is it's still a casino employee who did it, and they've been cut loose.

The NFL and the Ravens certainly aren't going to go on a hunt for the person who disclosed it. The sooner this incident vanishes from the public consciousness, the better for them.
