I am absolutely convinced they had seen the video before the punishment was handed down. Numerous outlets had reported they had seen it back when we found out about the two games.

It's the NFL. I expect they assumed that video would never get out because they're arrogant and most of the media are stooges desperate for access willing to buy what the NFL says.

Which network is going to bite the hand that feeds it first?

On second thought, maybe the NFL can try the IRS defense?

Fox News has a couple articles posted on the subject. One focuses on the responses NFL players are Twittering towards the whole situation and another story for various celebs shaming the NFL on this.

How the hell has he not been cut yet?

Either the team is looking at its options (CBA issues and such), or they're hoping it'll blow over.

How many people in Pittsburgh and other rival cities are going to get Rice's jersey and have something like "WIFE BEATER" or similar put on the back?

Whole bunch of legal issues are involved. A lifetime ban can't be imposed without a whole bunch of legal hoops that need to be jumped through.

Similarly cutting him and no other team picks him up is another legal landmine.

I'm guessing they are evaluating the likelihood of both options and weighing the consequences. You can be ****ed sure there have been dozens of conference calls already this morning between Manhattan and Baltimore.

They just have to figure out a way to A-rod him. Sometimes players become so toxic the league and the team have to work together to resolve the problem.

I assume the NFL interviewed him. I also assume Rice gave them a story that is different than "I just lined her up and knocked her out cold with one punch, then just drug her out of the elevator like a piece of luggage with a broken roller." If so, punish him for the lie, since he's already been "punished" for the offense.

Well, they must have figured the cost of keeping him was more than the cost of the legal battles that would come from cutting him.

Either way, he still gets paid for this year but gets to sit at home and think about what he's done.

Although, the cynic in me has to wonder if some sort of backroom deal was worked out by the Shield to effectively buy the contract from the Ravens and try to cut off the deluge of sh~t from reaching the upper floors of 345 Park Ave.
