NFL 2010: Now Extended By Two More Posts

Re: NFL 2010: Now Extended By Two More Posts

sometimes LBs, but certainly DBs are not trying to tackle - but instead trying to separate. especially in zone coverage where the safety is sitting back, there is no use in tackling the man, in that case you are conceding the yardage. instead if you hit the receiver and cause him to drop the pass, you are doing your job. no gain, next down.

--and i think everyone should realize already what harrison was talking about without me typing it out. i know i brought this up with my kids when they started playing non contact sports (like all kids should) such as ice hockey and dek hockey. "is it pain or injury?" they will get hit with the puck or ball, and it hurts. but you are not injured. you can continue playing. if you are injured, then you can go down. if you are just in pain, you keep playing until your shift is over.

harrison is not trying to injure. he is trying to bring pain.

Also, the yardage may be conceded - this time. But the next time a pass comes that way, the DB wants the WR to realize there's a price to pay if he tries to catch it. "Hearing footsteps" is a very effective part of the game.

Except it's not necessarily the one-off "devastating hits" that cause the brain to turn to slush. It's the repeated little ones that occur without giving the brain time to heal - linemen in particular seem to suffer from the constant contact on the line of scrimmage.
I know...it's both types of hits. I'm in a related field - and not football.

Not a big fan of Schlereth, but he's pretty on the money here.

This comes across to me as some pundit who is angry at the NFL for his "29 knee surgery's" (that he mentions every time he is on the air) and how the NFL doesnt take care of him or any other retired player. Im pretty sure in the video he is displaying there, the majority of hits are legal, and shoulder to head. I wonder how many clips in that video show someone getting paralyzed?

Why? Because he doesn't suck the collective dick of the NYC/Boston area? :p
No, because he's a blathering idiot who, despite the fact that he played in the majors, seems to know less about baseball than any of us posting in this thread.

Who at NFLN's headquarters thought it made sense to have little Luke Russert introduce Bruce Smith as one of the top 100 players by talking about how he represented Buffalo's "working-class ethos"? Luke was born in Washington, DC, into a family of millionaires. They couldn't find anyone more appropriate?

And Night Train Lane checks in at No. 30. Jerry Glanville begins his introduction by saying, "He once said to me that there's never been a good tackle belows the eyebrows." The next two minutes were spent on how great it was that he tried to hurt people. This was one day after the Commissioner's statement on protecting players. Perfect timing, guys.

Don't question the golden child, don't you know he's royalty!

According to the NFL's video that they released to players and teams this week, which ESPN excerpted in a separate clip, Schlereth is exactly right. The cover photo for that video shows a shoulder-to-shoulder hit. That's a hit that has always been considered a clean hit because the defender is not leading with his head and not focusing the point of impact upon his opponent's head. The NFL stated in the aforementioned video that such a shoulder-to-shoulder hit on a receiver will result in a flag and a fine.

I guess Buffalo's petition to play the game under CFL rules was denied. They were hoping to have 12 men on the field, multiple men in motion and only 2 downs so FitzPatrick doesn't get killed by Ray Lewis.

The Bills are playing themselves out of the top pick. I hope Ralph doesn't get the idea that Fitzy is the QB of the future and draft another running back.

Re: NFL 2010: Now Extended By Two More Posts

Todd Heap is being looked at by 3 or 4 doctors after what happened. Hope he's OK and they know enough to keep him out of the game.

Re: NFL 2010: Now Extended By Two More Posts

Dear Atlanta, if you could please stop choking away this game I'd appreciate it.

The Redskins have a power of making every them they play play like crap. The problem is they do too. 7 combined turnovers so far!
