NFL 2010 - Cap & Trade

Re: NFL 2010 - Cap & Trade

Here's why: Rule 8, Section 1, Article 4.

A play from start to finish is a process. When you go to the ground, even after you've caught the ball, you have to maintain possession.

The rule states: If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.
What I don't like about this wording is that it doesn't state when the play is considered over.

I seriously hope the players union puts that idea on their "dealbreaker" list. Terrible idea.

The owners and fans won't pay attention unless a marquee player suffers an injury in a meaningless game. If Peyton blows out his knee in week 16 they might notice.

And he maintained control (never actually lost control of it in the first place) until he intentionally threw/dropped the ball after he landed.

I don't care about either team, but the Lions were screwed.

I'm not sure I agree with the intentional part...I do however think that should have been a catch because Johnson got his feet then fell on his ***, still had the ball, then his arm comes down and the ball pops out...the rules should allow that, now its possible the current rule doesn't but thats stupid.

Hey, sorry for not staying for the GB game, but I like my Sunday ritual, and 7 hours at OC is a little long. :o

I will be up there every Sunday, though, starting at 11am, through the noon games.*

*except MTU-MN weekend, of course.

Yeah, but in the field of play they would rule he had possession and that the ground can't cause a fumble.

It doesn't look intentional at first glance, but a football player's natural reaction if he didn't mean to would be to retrieve the ball. He goes to celebrate because he thought it was a catch and the play was over. Horrible rule/call.

That's not exactly true anymore. I think the Vikings game had that exact play. Its not a fumble, but the ground does cause an incompletion. I swear that just happened.

Vick is in for the Eagles. Kolb was a sparkling 5 for 10 for 24 yards in the first half. Yep, loooooonnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg season.
