Against a bunch of reruns, though.

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

The league is overexposed I tell you. Overexposed!

Since when does overexposed mean not popular? I did not realize they were the same thing. So then by your definition no band that is selling a lot of albums or on tv a lot because they are popular are overexposed? I guess that works...

Heh. Nope.

But if something is overexposed, doesn't it stand to reason that people would grow sick of it?

No, it stands to reason that a certain segment of its fans would probably grow to hate it but not all of them until it goes way over the top. The NFL has yet to hit its saturation point (and there are other mitigating factors like Fantasy Football which keeps people interested) but it is most likely getting close. For me it was a couple years ago when I stopped playing fantasy football and realized that I really had little interest anymore in most of the games being played.

I think the product is worse overall despite the hype. Whether you agree is your deal. You asked whether football fans would take issue with Tuesday games as a start to all this and I think they would. People used to like the college bowl season too now it is mostly a joke.

Maybe we're playing with semantics here, but how is it overposed yet still below saturation? Isn't that nearly the same idea?

College football isn't the NFL, I like them both, but that's a terrible comparison.

If you say so...deny all you want that every sport goes along the same track, even your beloved NFL will. Sooner or later people will stop caring, maybe due to too many games, maybe ridiculous salaries, maybe the impending lockout. For the NFL's sake soon because its ego is getting out of control.

I dont want to argue semantics so I ignored your other statement :)

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

I don't expect the league to start playing on Tuesdays, but these numbers will allow the owners and Goodell to hold that possibility over the head of the union and get an even better deal from the upcoming CBA.

But what the players union can argue is that it went against nothing new on any other network so the numbers are skewed beyond the realm of what would be normal.

Meanwhile, Tucker Carlson is a moron.

Carlson says, "Michael Vick killed dogs, and he did [it] in a heartless and cruel way."

Carlson added, "I think personally he should have been executed for that."

Carlson, a conservative commentator, is angry that Obama told Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie he believes people who have paid for their crimes should have the opportunity to contribute to society again.

Pretty much. Compare pre-1994 baseball "America's Pasttime" to 2010 baseball- "What else is on? This non-World Series game sucks."

Everyone gets arrogant and trips up eventually, and frankly, Goodell stands a decent chance of being that guy for the NFL with his ruling by fiat approach to being commissioner.

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

it's proof that that dingleberry will say anything just to contradict obama. If obama had said, "no way does he get a second chance." carlson would be shouting about how bad of a <del>christian</del> muslim obama is.

Anyone want to follow a page from the Texans and organize a Fire Gailey rally? :D

As for Carlson... let's quote the great Chris Jericho. "Would you please, SHUT THE HELL UP?!?!!?" Vick did his time and he seems to be moving in the right direction. Some of his decisions like the party where his friend got shot were dumb, but he's kept his nose clean. If Obama said Hitler was evil, then Carlson would say he was misunderstood. If Obama said Hitler was a genius, then Carlson would call him a Nazi.

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

Now that it seems like there aren't going to be any stat corrections from last night's game, it's time for the second-to-last fantasy rundown of 2010. (Second-to-last because one of my leagues does something separate in week 17, which I'll describe in a little while.)

League 3: Lost fifth-place game, 133.8 - 101.8. My team's overall lackluster performance this week makes me feel a bit better about my bad lineup decisions in the quarterfinal in week 15, since I wouldn't have won the championship anyway. My MVP for the week: Mike Wallace (24.4). FU to: Calvin Johnson (7.2), Peyton Hillis (4.5), Chris Johnson (5.8), Kevin Boss (Blutarsky). Should have played: Brandon Lloyd (19.6) instead of Calvin Johnson, Jahvid Best (14.2) instead of Chris Johnson or Hillis, Brent Celek (14.7) instead of Boss.

League 1: Lost championship game, 130.2 - 129.2, way closer than I thought it was going to be going into last night's game actually. My MVPs: Jamaal Charles (23.7), Minnesota D (20.4). FU to: Vincent Jackson (5.4), Rashad Jennings (6.1), Darren McFadden (7.6). Should have played: Ryan Mathews (14.3) instead of Jennings or McFadden; everyone else laid an egg so most of my possible roster moves wouldn't have made any difference anyway.

But most importantly...

League 2: Won championship game, 99.25 - 99.01 (i.e., 3 rush/rec yards or 5 passing yards), in the only money league of the three. Yeesh, what a nailbiter, came down to Vick's couple of completions in garbage time after the Vikes punted after the two minute warning. My MVPs: Michael Vick (26.5), Charles (23.7). Honorable mention to Tony Moeaki (6.3), who I picked up on Sunday morning when I found out that Antonio Gates and Aaron Hernandez both weren't playing. Halfhearted FU (because how upset can I be when I won the championship) to Calvin Johnson (5.2), Tampa Bay Defense (7.2). Should have played: Kenny Britt (14.9, good call to whoever it was who suggested I pick him up) or Percy Harvin (10.6) instead of Johnson (but, again, how upset can I be at this point?).

Season recaps and League 2's Week 17 Challenge coming up soon...

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

Agreed. (about Tucker Carlson... thought I replied with quote... oh well) I like Fox News but every time they take a step forward, they allow some schmuck to push them 2 steps back.

Oh well.

Never would have thought it possible that the Vikings win on Tuesday. Kudos to Frazier and the Vikes.

I like Frazier. He should get a shot at taking the team forward. However, what a team to take forward. This team is in need of:

1. A Starting QB
2. A Backup QB (ok, Webb did good, but it was only ONE game. I still see him as a WR on the Vikings plus a Wildcat QB ala Antoine Randel El more than a regular QB)
3. An offensive line. Heck, not a lot on this line I'd keep.
4. A WR or two. Harvin is ok, but healthy-wise unreliable. Sidney Rice's contract is up but he has health issues as well. I'd probably go through the draft on this one.
5. Re-sign Greenway and Winfield (IIRC, his contract is up)

But most importantly, I think the Wilfs have to cut the cord and actually investigate hiring a real GM for the Vikings. And that GM makes ALL of the drafting decisions. No more TSuck drafts. Historically...or at least since I've been paying attention to football anyways, the Vikings have been rather notoriously awful on draft day.

And yeah, I'm a packers' fan but what can I say? I grew up watching the NFC North and my father is a Vikings fan.

Re: NFL 2010: $25K Fine For Talking About Fines

In light of the final judgement from Goodell on Brett Favre, let's take a moment to understand why we should have seen this scandal coming from a mile away:

<object width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EK2jcn2LvR8&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EK2jcn2LvR8&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>

And because it's kind of funny, in a stupid and cheesy way:

Sonuva.... a stat correction gave my opponent an extra point somewhere, and now I'm on the short end of a 100.01 - 99.25 score.

Edit to add: Due to an extra sack credited to the Pats defense, as if the Pats weren't despicable enough as it is.
