Re: NFL 2009 Thread #3: The Quest for Perfection

Playoffs are set. Seems pretty clear its going to be San Diego vs New Orleans.

Next Week:
BAL @ NE - Sunday, 1:00 CBS
NYJ @ CIN - Saturday, 4:30 NBC
GB @ ARI - Sunday, 4:30 Fox
PHI @ DAL - Saturday, 8:00 NBC

Updated with times.

New Orleans hasn't been playing all that well recently. I think GB has a good shot of going in there and getting a win. that is, of course, assuming both Dallas and GB win next weekend.

San Diego has no running game and a bad running defense. If they win it all it will be a surprise for me. In fact, they might lose their first playoff game against the Patriots.

New Orleans has their own worries: they've really shat the bed the last few weeks.

I have a weird feeling that PHI upsets DAL and that would put GB @ MIN which I think hurts MN having to beat them a 3rd time.

I also don't put a lot of stock in the recent NO losses since their starters played only half of the last 2 games. PHI @ NO would be a good game, but I feel like NO has enough to win that.

Possibly setting up a GB @ NO NFC Title game.

AFC seems pretty wide open for the first round. I could see any of those 4 teams advancing.

Likely to be NE and CIN moving on. With the assumption that CIN gets its players like Benson back to play.

Which I think puts NE @ IND and CIN @ SD.

NE/IND is another toss up, and should be a battle. I think SD just has a really easy road to the SB this time around. 11 wins in a row has to count for something as well.

No, NE would go to SD and CIN would go to IND.

Jets are not the #6 seed? or CIN is not the #3? Or I guess both? heh

I figured Jets were #6 since they had same wins as BAL but fewer Division wins.

Edit: Indeed I was wrong. Jets are #5 vs #4 CIN. Doesn't change that rounds predictions though. NE @ SD is a tougher game for the Chargers though to be sure.

In an odd aside...has there been a season where three 1st round playoff games involve teams that met in the final game of the regular season, two in the same stadium?

Re: NFL 2009 Thread #3: The Quest for Perfection

The beating a team 3 times in a season thing gets blown way out of proportion. Someone mentioned it on the post game show that there have been 17 match ups like that, and 12 the three game sweep was accomplished.

Superstition runs deep in sports.

I would love a MN-GB matchup. That's the type of game that playoffs are all about.

And the fact that MN is 1-0 against GB in the playoffs, which seems really odd. They've faced off ONCE in their playoff history?

The only drawback would be the media storylines. That'd be unbearable.

Jim Zorn got off the plane, was escorted to his office and given the cardboard box...

Why are all of you assuming the Pats are going to beat Baltimore??? Because you've been brainwashed?

Re: NFL 2009 Thread #3: The Quest for Perfection

The Bills have fired the entire coaching staff.

Re: NFL 2009 Thread #3: The Quest for Perfection

Because, Scarlet, the purple browns blow. They suck, I mean really suck. Patsies will have no trouble moving on to lose in he next round at sd

Re: NFL 2009 Thread #3: The Quest for Perfection

Lost by .5 points. If I had started Mendenhall over Barber or Shiancoe over Winslow...I would have won.

Or if Roy Williams wasn't worthless and created that Romo INT last week.

Isn't their special teams coach considered one of the best in the league? I assume they've settled on a coach who said he wanted entirely new personnel.

Their fates are in the hands of the new coach.

The new head coach could end up retaining some of the coaching staff. For instance, guys like Fewell and Bobby April (the special teams coach).

BTW- the Bills special teams were AWFUL this year.

No. The Pats will build a 17-14 point lead and collapse like the PC athletic department in the last quarter. This would be sandbagging if it hadn't happened six times this year. This team might have gone 14-2 if they didn't make outrageously awful decisions in the fourth quarter of every road game not involving the Bills.
