Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Ah, OK. Looks like he was a Sertie recruit who left the summer Russell was hired and had a short ECHL career. So I was wrong about the NTDP thing.
It really wasn't a Sertie/Russell thing...Bryan hated class and did some other "bad" things. I knew him pretty well, had a few classes with him...in other news Brett Engelhardt played for the USNDPT before 2 years in the USHL and then the Huskies.

Going to be a lot of grinding of teeth in duhlut next week and it won't be from us. Now is our time!

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

So I am wondering what husky fans think of the loses this weekend by some of the top teams. I mean will a tie for BU be enough to keep them up there or will yale inherit the number one slot. Certainly miami did not impress. And neither did a number of other top teams.
My biggest surprise this far is UNO. Also wmu surprised me as well.

I hope Tech doesn't pull a lions and lose at the end because they can't seem to play for 60 minutes. Lions deserved better than that.
last, since the ccha has a shootout, will the gli inherit this? I'm not a fan.

huskyfan thinks parity helps Tech. huskyfan found out last night she is going to the UNO game. huskyfan doesn't think anyone can pull a Lions like the Lions can.
huskyfan is anti shootout.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

The GLI already inherited the shootout last season, but only for the first round and third place games - 5 minutes of OT, then a shootout. The championship game will still be decided by continuous, 20-minute overtime periods in the event of a tie at the end of regulation.

Miami frequently struggles with Ferris, especially in Big Rapids. They're not going to drop much.

Yale's defensive efforts continue to unimpress me, and they should not be #1, IMHO. It's one thing to outscore some of the lesser ECAC teams, but look what happened in that 9-7 shootout with BC in last year's playoffs. If they get any sort of goaltending or effort on the defensive side of the puck in that game, BC goes home early.

UNO is a bit of a surprise, but Western is the bigger one. Blashill visiting his alma mater in two weeks oughta be fun to follow.

Really? I thought the GLI (except 3rd place game) had continuous 20-min OT periods.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Just stumbled across one of the very first write-ups I did of my thoughts on the team, back in the summer of 2007. For entertainment value, I submit this part of it:

Dumbo F2B&G said:
Bottom line - I think the team is very capable of being, say, 10-4-1 by the time Casey suits up for his first game as a Husky on December 15th.

Naivety is awesome! :D

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Naivety or borderline retardation?

Naivety, you a55hat. :p

The reality is, I still understood very little about the landscape of the college game as a whole, and we were so excited about getting CPZ that no one really considered the possibility that, in the end, he wouldn't be coming at all. Of course, there was also the whole thing with Teslak's gimped back and knee that no one could've seen coming.

The 2007-08 season never happened. Please do not speak of it again.

Hey now, that GLI still happened. Until we actually win one, it happened. :p

Then that means this also happened.

Nah, we can be selective. I liked the 3-1 win over UND, the series against Mankato and CC, both GLI games, the 4-2 win over Wisconsin (Kinrade goes Bobby Orr on the Badgers for the gamewinner), the 2-1 win over Denver, and the final two playoff games against the Sioux.

There, now we finished 07-08 with a 8-2-1 record. :p

Wait, wait, wait...we won that final playoff game with Sue 3-2 in triple overtime. MEg's head exploded. Then we made it to the championship game of the F5 and beat St, Clooud at our regional.

And NMU got curbstomped by MSU 10-1 and 9-2 in the CCHA second round.

**FACEPALM**

I give up on you two, you're hopeless and impossible, I was also witness to this season, and I believe the 14-20-5 record was pretty much accurate =P
