Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Hi folks, just checking in and seeing alot of the same fans are still around cheering on the Huskies. Great win tonight, brings back memories to me of when we beat Northern in overtime about 5 years ago when son had 4 goals that night. It is always sweet to beat Northern!!!!! Go Huskies!!!
Lovely to hear from you again Canadian Arm, its only fitting to have a result like this now that the Huskies have another Oil Baron on the team! I hope all is well with you and your family. I haven't chatted with Colin or Michelle recently but I'm sure they're doing fine in Germany?

Congrats to Tech on a great OT win tonight. It looks like our sausage fest naighboors of the north have the better team this year. Kudos to you guys

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Oh jeez, you guys again?

Only one, only one, and I am back because as tonight's travesty shows, Walt is too incompetant to lead a bunch of kindergardens in a lemonaide stand, much less a D-1 hockey team that should be competing for a national championships

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

:)

Jordan Baker is on crutches. :(

What the hell? I thought he was skating in practice and taking shots! :(

Baker has a second degree ankle sprain, Flashy went and talked to him before the game....but it sounds like it shouldn't delay his recovery too much, when Flashy and I were talking about it, the thought was mentioned that it could be a blessing in disguise, allowing him to make sure that shoulder is good before he plays again

Now on to thoughts about tonight's game (Just got back...made it from Wendy's to Houghton in a little under 95 minutes, with 1 stop for gas, the cruise on 75 will do that...:) )

Just start out with the officiating was bad....leave it at that....I understand letting them play, but it was a bit ridiculous...

Also the ice was horrid...lots of bouncing pucks and ice patching, but what else do you expect when Marquette has an 80 degree day in October?

Absolutely amazing, the start was obviously bad, getting down 2 goals, but getting those 2 back during the 5 minute major was great. I saw things out of this team that I have honestly never seen before, they were winning board battles  , they were playing very physical, which against Northern is usually a given, but this time around it was awesome, huge hits all around, but making sure to not leave themselves out of the play. Thought I'd like to see some more shots on goal, overall it wasn't bad, a lot of shots were hitting the boards and glass behind the net, but at least they're shooting.

The 3rd period was bad, way too much old Tech hockey, dump and chase (or change as it happens a lot), and lot of play spent in the defensive zone, ultimately allowing NMU to tie it up, the team's gotta stay hungry and stay offensive during the third.

The forwards like Royer and Holmberg have great presence in front of the net, getting right in position for the rebound, the GWG, Royer was in the slot all alone, with the Sieve (Ellingson) already down, can't say enough about that. This team was actually capitalizing on opportunities . Nice to see them play good hockey again in OT, the 3rd period kind of scared me as to how they would play in OT

Overall, it was an amazing game, even Russell was pumped up after the game, but we'll see how LSSU and Tuesday's NMU matchup goes before we get too hopeful for the rest of the season.

Agreed, and I would include the Mankato series next weekend as well (though I'd give them a pass for splitting that one given the Tuesday night game they have to play). Winning on the road means little if you can't defend home ice - just ask last year's St. Louis Blues.

Shirtless, Colin and Michelle are on their 4th son....lol....4th one due in Nov. Soon will have enough for their own line in hockey...lolThey are very, very busy....and then some...LOL...Colin and Brett Englehardt are both playing for Hamburg now, both are leading the team in scoring and both are in top 10 in scoring. Life over there is great for them, they really like it, seeing things and going places they would never get to if leading the normal life. We miss them though...

I'm sure it must be tough having them half a world away but you should be very proud of everything he's accomplished. Tell him I say hi the next time you talk to him.

Best Misfits crowd I have ever seen at NMU. Absolutely electric. A 2-0 score couldn't keep these guys down. NMU fans were scoreboarding us like none other because we were still cheering. The hockey Gods were listening and ended that nonsense.

Other than the Twitch Factor? Not really. :p

Hell, you don't even live close enough to Prudhoe Bay to pull any favors for me.

Great game by the Huskies, exciting to listen to.

But I'm not drinking the kool-aide just quite yet. There was a lot that was different about this game, but there was still enough of the same old same old, like getting down by two goals in the first five minutes or so and letting northern take target practice on Robo for the last ten minutes.
If Tech can go 4-1 or 3-2 over the next few games then I'll be thinking about taking a swig of the sweet stuff..

Was Johnstone as fast and as skilled as they made him out to be on the broadcast?

On to LSSU, GO HUSKIES

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

yes, Johnstone looked real good. so did Furne. and Holmberg.

I have drank the Kool-Aid. I bathed in it last night. every cell in my body is Kool-Aid. I *heart* the Kool-Aid. I am Kool-Aid. We are all Kool-Aid. Ich bin ein Kool-Aider.

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

The nice part is we still have Dennis Rix, Brad Stebner, and Jordan Baker (healthy) to add even more to the lineup.

I'm curious what changes occur tonight at LSSU.
Johnstone and McCadden were two that were not penciled in over the summer.
If they are solid as mentioned, then we finally have some depth.....
Reddick and Witt are going to be eager to get into the lineup as well.

Go Tech....

Re: "Next Year" Begins Now: Michigan Tech 2010-11 Season Thread Part I

Heard it was a good game last, unfortunately I couldn't see more than half of it.

Hate to break it to all of you, but we still suck. Northern is just as ****ty as we are.

Given the title of the MN Season thread, you're awfully close to being a Gopher fan, too. ;) And that right there is sig material.
