New York Mets 2012: Fight the Future

Re: New York Mets 2012: Fight the Future

Actually, I think there's no black whatsoever.
Unfortunately there will still be black a few times this year. Gary Cohen jokingly (I think) said in Spring Training that he just wouldn't broadcast those games.

The really sweet change is they finally got rid of that horrible dropshadowing. The exec who greenlit that originally should be shot. The greatest uniforms in Mets history remain the 1973 version, and we're about as close to those as modern idiotic sensibilities will allow.

I don't know why SNY uses so much black -- some marketing study in the 90's must have said it sold the most Bud Light because sports TV has been riddled with it ever since. Or it's Clive Campbell's fault.

Nice comeback today by the fighting metropolitans on a really good bullpen in Cincinnati.

All things considered, I guess 2-2 isn't awful against the Brewers and Reds. We're starting to get deeper and deeper into the season and this team remains relevant. How much longer can it last?

They are a fun bunch to watch regardless. Frustrating at times...but still fun.

David Wright is just absolutely raking this year.

Today on Facebook, there's an amusing gallery of the Mets kitted out for their upcoming road trip to Toronto in their favorite hockey jerseys. Jason Bay shows his hockey savvy with a Whalers throwback. Murphy (Lightning), Gee (Stars) and Dickey (Predators) rep their hometowns. Santana pays tribute to his time in Minnesota with a Wild jersey. Jordany Valdespin goes with UConn, for no reason that I can discern. Robert Carson goes Original Six with the Red Wings. Jonathan Niese and Justin Turner support their local sports team with Rangers jerseys, Niese's a Lundqvist Winter Classic jersey. David Wright probably takes the prize, though, with a Mighty Ducks jersey - not the NHL team, but this style from the movie, complete with "Goldberg 33" on the back.

David Wright is just absolutely raking this year.
He was 2x2 with 2 doubles and 3 walks, and he ripped two line drives right down the left field line that were barely foul. He is as much a pleasure to watch as Reyes was he first half of last year.

It would be funny if the Mets waited 50 years to have a hitter lead the league in BA, and then have them back-to-back.

There is another gallery up on the Mets official website that shows Manny Acosta and Miguel Batista with Rangers jerseys on. Although another awesome one is Jon Rauch repping a Syracuse Bulldogs jersey from Slapshot!

Strange team. They've alternated between slightly above-average / never quitting and quad-A bottom feeder.

Re: New York Mets 2012: Fight the Future

Mets hit three home runs today. All of them into the Party City Deck. This must be what it feels like to play in CBP or the GABP.

Also, Mets (0.667) have the 2nd-best record against division opponents behind the Dodgers (0.696).

Oh Kepler.....

You may want to turn to MLB Network. History may be made.

Oh, I was listening.

Mets RS game 8,020.

For me: games scored in books: 1,733.

There are no words.

People still do that?
Whenever I am at a ballpark - all the time. Unfortunately, it's a lost art. Nowadays with all the electronic gizmos at the ballpark, people are doing everything but paying attention to the game.

That's a bit of a leap there. I pay attention to the game when I'm there, but I've never seen how keeping score enhances my enjoyment, especially now that I can look up play-by-play online afterward if I want to remember what happened. I'm just as liable to get distracted from the game trying to figure out where to put the two guys that came in on a double switch or how to score a rundown as I am if I'm checking Facebook on my phone.

I did at the Phillies-Pirates game that I went to on Easter Sunday and quickly realized that the scorecards given to you in the game program are much too small to do anything with. Especially when one of the teams is the Pirates and they make use of all 13 batters and 6 of their pitchers. I'd show you a picture of my attempt at score-keeping, but I don't want to give you all strokes.

Basically, it's a way to keep myself entertained at a game where I don't care who wins and I've already explored the ballpark.

Congrats to Nohan!

And also to Dickey for another complete-game shutout. If we clone these two and send them out there every day, does that mean that we can get rid of most of our bullpen and stop worrying about how many games they'll cost us over the course of the season?

De gustibus non disputandum est. I think keeping a scorecard is one of life's simple pleasures, and that an EMP would improve the experience of going to games.

Re: New York Mets 2012: Fight the Future

Fair enough. I find trying to keep a scorecard more distracting than any benefits it provides, but maybe once you've kept that many, it doesn't require that much of your attention.

Re: New York Mets 2012: Fight the Future

Speaking of, my wife and I are going to the Wednesday and Thursday games this week in DC. I haven't seen us in person since Ollie Perez' magnificent final appearance.

Re: New York Mets 2012: Fight the Future

Is it just me or does it seem like Jon Rauch gives up runs EVERY appearance he makes out of the pen?
