So my wife just called and said, "did you hear you signed Sandy Alomar?"

Almoar, or Alderson? Because I see news articles about a GM hiring, but I don't see anything about Sandy Alomar (except that he's being considered for the manager position in Toronto).

Sandy Alderson is our new GM. Now to wait on who the new manager will be, but it will be hard to be worse than Jerry Manuel.

Edit: Of course I said the same thing about Willie Randolph being fired.

AA comments. Not a lot to disagree with.

I'm hopeful that Alderson is a "five tool" player as GM: intelligence, patience, confidence, honesty, curiosity. That's what makes a successful leader of a complex organization, and it's where all the secondary skills -- communication, decisiveness, flexibility -- spring from.

We'll see. Hopefully we are not going through the same exercise 4 years from now after burning him out with NYC / Wilpon hystrionics.

He's Paul DePodesta's protogé. A lot of fans (not I) are hopping mad it's not Backman. Here is a very good post on the dynastic change in the FO.
