No it's not.
The NCHC saw that as a voting block they were now outnumbered and when the rest decided to give the commish an extension without their knowledge...they decided they had enough.
It's all about what it is best for the schools...loyalty be ****ed.

Keep making excuses. With the money power of UND, SCSU, etc, the WCHA could have survived, for the most part (again, the AK schools were pretty doomed, due to other factors).

Agreed, and the NCHC didn't even TRY to make it work, which it DID for a couple years in the WCHA. That's my beef. If the NCHC tried, and it didn't work? Ok, no harm no foul.

Not looking for an argument, but not all NCAA sports are in the business category. Cross Country, Golf, Track, to name a few, are not big money makers for schools, if at all. Obviously, some sports carry other sports with their revenue, and I would think hockey falls into that category in some schools. I guess schools are willing to take a loss with Xcountry (as an example, not picking on the runners), but not with hockey. Certainly, Xcountry lost revenue could be in the thousands and hockey could be in the hundreds of thousands.

We didn't want to try...especially after the contract extension of a guy the NCHC schools did not want.
Sue us.
The current WCHA didn't have much of a choice then...it was come together or die.
Again your argument is semantics.

LOL. Stop speaking like your school was one of the founding six.
Your school officials were content to sit in the new WCHA, as so much as they released statements saying such. It wasnt until the clock hit bar close that your school got cold feet, looked around the bar, grabbed Western Michigan, said "you'll do," and decided to take WMU to the Motel 6 conference.

My entire argument has been the schools are doing what's best for them.
We are no different.
Had we not been invited...we'd have made it work. We were...we left.
Sure worked out for us.

This post summarizes the precise thinking that shows why the NCHC teams made the correct move. Some people and programs are just happy to try to "survive," and the WCHA commissioner and a majority of the teams that remained in the WCHA after the B1G schools left were in that boat. UND, DU, UMD, etc..., weren't just interested in "surviving." They were interested in thriving, as they had been.

As I posted earlier, there isn't a single person with a lick of hockey or business sense who can sit here today and claim the NCHC teams made a bad decision. To the contrary, they made a very good decision.

The bottom line was that in both leagues, the smaller schools had the majority. The North Dakotas didn’t want the Michigan Techs and Bemidjis in control of league policy.

Not to mention the large universities don't want the small schools to realistically compete against them, so kick them to the curb and keep them down, whenever possible. Yes, this is where the money comes in to play, and the large universities would say, as it should be. Attendance rises when large universities come into small school markets, and attendance drops when small schools come into large university markets. But the Big schools can't just play each other, so small market teams are needed to fill out the schedule. I always loved college hockey because my small market team (Northern) could realistically compete against the major universities, unlike football or basketball. But in the past, we were allowed to compete, whereas now, through conference realignments and lost revenue, that is rapidly changing. The Alaska schools may be in trouble now, but how long will it be before a good number of the WCHA teams are in the same boat? I guess the schools with all the money and power will decide.

The NCHC schools never gave it a chance to work. They blew it up...that is a distinct difference. The WCHA accepted all the left over teams and tried to make it work. If you can't understand the difference thats on you.

The WCHA didn't have a choice. It was join or die.
Yes the NCHC left and as Hovey said...it's because they didn't just want to survive...they wanted to thrive.
The league has done that.
Sure seems like they all made the right choice.

Again...i feel sorry for the fans of the Alaska schools and UAH if this does mean the death of their programs.
However...trying to parse it by saying you tried to make it work while we all just left as though that somehow makes these 7 schools better is just semantic BS.
In the end...all of these schools are looking out for themselves and none are better than any other for doing it.

Everyone has different values. Some people value money; some people value loyalty. We have learned who values what.

B1G creation; a bad move
NCHC creation; a worse move
nWCHA creation; a choice-less move
Magnificent 7 creation; a survival move

and the situation that these three UA_ teams find themselves in can only resolved by having the other 50 programs and the NCAA do something for once.

every conference and every team within each conference should take a turn in hosting and visiting the states of AL and AK.

and if you do the math the cost would be trivial for the cycle would take forever to repeat itself.

solutions are abundant...
